Re: Predator Reboot...

"The 1984 you were going to no longer exists. Everything is changed. I'm hot and you're a ********* now."

"WHAT?"

"Oh yeah, we're all really big on first AND last names now too."

"Sarah Connor, tell Kyle Reese I think that Jai Courtney sucks."

"See? Told you."

Re: Predator Reboot...

Dude, was that the worst ****ing movie or what.. seriously. :lol

I got a digital copy, then deleted the mofo straight after I watched it.

I actually find it a guilty pleasure, even watched it again the other day. I don't consider it canon I must stress. It's all very silly and further undermines the T-800 with jokey crap and physical strength he never had in T1 and T2; generally just doesn't feel like the Cameron-verse in any way. Most notably Kyle Reese is a completely different character for some reason. So it's not canon. Real Terminator ended with T2.

As to why I can enjoy it on any level, I'm not even sure. When you think about it, what a ridiculous way to 'respect' T1 and T2 by erasing their events from the timeline. And yet, paradoxically, that's the only point of interest in the film at all. Who would care about another ''even more powerfuller Terminator than your Terminator'' story if it were just that. And I think this is ultimately why I can watch this and yet I can't stomach T3. T3 was just poor repetition.

Yeah, Genisys is good fun but just one of those sequels that you compartmentalize and enjoy in spite of it not being a "real" continuation of the story.

The funny thing is that for all the silliness and goofiness every so often there will be like 10 or 20 seconds straight of a sequence that makes me think, "you know, this one segment could have been part of a *great* Terminator movie," like portions of the future sequence or like when Arnold was loading the magazines and his hand went all crazy.

I like the score aswell. Having said that the big orchestra stuff is simultaneously one of the things that makes Genisys feel very inconsistent with the Cameron films.

That and the gratuitous over use of "DUN dun dun dun dun, DUN dun dun dun dun..." Somehow "opening and closing credits" became "every five seconds of the movie."

Oh yeah, hated that. Gratuitous ''hey audience it's Terminator! DUN dun dun dun DUN! See? It's Terminator!!'' That wasn't even the T-800s theme in the first two movies. But the other more melodic stuff in the Genisys score is nice.

I don't even think T3 misused the main title music. McG was the one who first put it in the actual movie in order to have his super X-treme CGI Arnold reveal in Salvation. Then the Genisys director apparently took it as fair game to use every time Arnold does something cool.

But the other more melodic stuff in the Genisys score is nice.

Agreed.

Re: Predator Reboot...

I think the only track I recognized in it was one section of Reese in the department store and they used tiny hints of the "Arm and Eye Surgery" theme.

Re: Predator Reboot...

Worst? No.
It was more a rhetorical question actually. :lol

Of course mate I know that, & we all have our guilty pleasures. That said, I just came away thinking, "NO. Just - no."

Well to be fair, I actually did say in the movie thread that I thought the first 10mins or so were good, so there is that. Ignoring the momumentally idiotic casting of JonBon Courtney for a second, the initial exchange between him & Jason Clarke was quite well done - as well as the actual war sequences. Still, that wasn't going to prop up the rest of such a bloated popcorn nightmare passing for a T-movie.

Re: Predator Reboot...

I know it's a truly beaten horse at this point, but boy oh boy was casting Jai Courtney in Terminator Genisys THE WORST casting decision of the last few years, hands down. Just a ****ing terrible decision.

Re: Predator Reboot...

It deprived the film of potential oomph that they cast someone so unsuitable as Reese. Imagine how certain things might have played if we could in any way believe that this was the same character as in T1. The relationship with Pops would have been more interesting and the fact that he doesn't die might have been an exciting prospect. How typical. Biehn Reese dies. Courtney survives. I'm reminded of a Bill Hicks joke:

We always kill the guys that try to help us, always. And let the little demons run a muck. John Lennon murdered, John Kennedy murdered, Martin Luther King murdered, Gandhi murdered, Jesus murdered…..Ronald Reagan….wounded. - Bill Hicks

So Predator eh?

Re: Predator Reboot...

My favorite part of the Genisys honest trailer was the guy saying, "attention Hollywood, Jai Courtney is never gonna happen so please STOP." Lol. I can only assume he'll star in the Predator reboot. :monkey1

Re: Predator Reboot...

I'm reminded of a Bill Hicks joke:
Yeah. Dennis Leary had a similar joke in one of his 90s stand up shows which rang pretty true as well; Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin - all died before their time via one vice or another, yet modern 'production line' rockers get left with a room full coke, & come out an hour later yelling ROCK ON!!! :lol

Re: Predator Reboot...

According to some article a guy linked us to in the Hot Toys Guardian T-800 thread the sequel isn't in fact dead and they are taking a more considered approach and apparently trying to ascertain what fans want. Bit ****ing late now
