I can vouch that when I worked at EB Games we had a shrink wrap machine. We would take the displayed copies of the games (gutted cases) re-fill them back up, shrink wrap them, and sell them as new. These were the games as employees we were allowed to take home to borrow. :lecture

Well, I can say without a doubt that is not how my game stop does things. As I said I've never not gotten a game from them that wasn't exactly as I could find it at BB, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

I rarely PO games. I did PO 5 from Best Buy but only because they were giving me $100 credit if I did so.

At gamestop every game regardless of it being "new" or used they pulled a disk from locked cabinet. When I asked why they said is was for security reasons but they game was new they just open case and out disk in sleeve and put it in cabinet.

Well, I'd say if you PO games from Game Stop that might not be a problem. As I said its not been something I've run into but maybe the store I go to just has a classy manager running it.

What does your Gamestop have on the shelves? Pre-orderd games aside you have a very good chance of pulling that display box off the shelf handing it to the register jockey and him stuffing the finger ____ed case with a "new" game.

I find it hard to believe that your Gamestop does not "gut games" for "display" purposes.

They have cases like that on the wall. I'm not arguing that isn't part of the policy. What I'm saying is the games I PO are minty fresh just like you could get at any other store. That and I never really get pushed hard for the other items they offer because the manager knows I'm not taking them.

I've always kind of known about Gamestops shady practices and been annoyed at the constant barrage of trying to sell me stuff they do but I'm astounded to hear some of these stories. I knew they took new copies and opened them and played them and sold them as new. That is why I only pre-ordered games from them if the pre-order incentive was ideal and made sure it was a new copy I was getting. If they ever handed me an unsealed game I'd have thrown it in their face and told them to kiss my ass.

After reading some of this stuff I'm severely considering never buying from them again. I don't ever trade my games due to it being a ripoff but I don't know if I want to support a company that constantly tries to shove crap down my throat and has the shady practice of opening games and selling them full price as new.

I went to buy Hitman 2 and Hitman Contracts used from them a few years back. I picked out the black labeled cases from their used game bin and brought it up to the counter. While they were checking me out the guy replaced the black labeled case with the red labeled greatest hits cases. Why? I don't know. I told them if they wouldn't give me the black labeled case they could forget it. I couldn't understand what that was about and wasn't offered an explanation. I just chalked it up to shadiness.

Bottom line is that you dont HAVE to buy from them. They try to "screw" you on a trade..don't trade. They try to sell you a used game as new..don't buy it.

Gottcha. Usually if you pre-order you are okay. However, if you wait and go to pick up after a day or so you run the risk of getting an opened game.

See! Gamers are primarily a fickle bunch. And thats okay! You are the customer.

You really want a butt burner, those re-furbed systems they sell? They are systems that people have traded in. The only time they get sent out of the store is if one store has too many in stock and then they redistribute those throughtout the district.

Refurbed to Gamestop means plugged in in the back to briefly make sure it works, slap it in a box, and sold to some dumb ass customer. :horror

There is nothing refurbished about them unless they don't work initially.

Believe me I could sit here all day and talk about more shaddy practices. I had one store in my district back in the day that would shink wrap new games with the guides and only sell them until they ran out of guides in order to get credit for selling "attachments". Attachements are usually items that cost almost nothing to make and then they turn around and sell it for $25 to $30. Higher "margin" stores means promotions for the manager and bonuses as well. They reward this behavior.

Back in my day it was the wonderous game doctor. You remember the dumb ass thing meant to fix scratches on games? Sadly I sold a ton of these non functioning devices to unsuspecting customers to try to increase my own personal value within the company. I'm not proud of it either. We made $5 commission on every one that we sold.

There are so many reasons why I just walked out that door. It honestly is one of the best decisions I have ever made both for moral and personal reasons.

this thread lists all the reasons why i never buy from game stop. even today i called to check trade in values and they only offer $20 for gears of war 3 while best buy offers $27 for it. if you can't beat best buy, just give up as a game retailer.

Best buy is losing tons of money!

If you trade in a game at Best Buy, they usually have deals where you can get 50% more trad in value if you pre-order another game. I take then up on it, then cancel my pre-order.

Traded in Gears 3 last week for $38. :hi5:

Best part is that I use the gift card from the trade in to buy an Amazon gift card and buy things from Amazon tax free.

They are Amazon "Kindle" cards specifically and they sell them next to the Kindles. Best way to get a few extra bucks by avoiding sales tax (if you are in the right state)

LOL Pretty smart.

NOTHING beats amazon. Pretty much, nothing beats buying online.

Just wanted to add that Kindle cards work on anything at Amazon.
