Can someone explain Scientology in a nutshell for me?

I have certain understandings of the "religion" -- I've heard something about 4-armed aliens -- but I have no idea if the hearsay is correct. I'm just curious what the heck they believe, and why they keep it such a mystery.

LOL i love unleashing of electronica when Tom Cruise is announced its almost like an advertisement for Matrix 4 lol

I have it, i got all 11 seasons of SP

As I understand it, it boils down to all humans are born with original sin and this original sin makes you feel bad, but it's called thetans which are the souls of evil aliens that get trapped in our bodies and can only be recorded by machines run by a "Clear" which is someone who has washed away their Thetans. And the only way to remove them and feel good is by going to the Church on a regular basis and talking about your life and I think machines that look like answering machines are involved. Not sure. But don't go to a therapist and talk about your life without the answering machines to feel better as they're evil or something. Once again, not sure.

As far as the mythology... (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenu)

Xenu (also Xemu), pronounced /ˈziːnuː/, according to Scientology founder (and science fiction writer) L. Ron Hubbard, was the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions[1] of his people to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs. Scientology holds that their essences remained, and that they form around people in modern times, causing them spiritual harm.[2][3] Members of the Church of Scientology widely deny or try to hide the Xenu story.

These events are known to Scientologists as "Incident II", and the traumatic memories associated with them as The Wall of Fire. The story of Xenu is part of Scientologist teachings on extraterrestrial civilizations and alien interventions in Earthly events, collectively described as space opera by Hubbard. Hubbard detailed the story in Operating Thetan level III (OT III) in 1967, warning that this material was "calculated to kill (by pneumonia etc) anyone who attempts to solve it."[sic]

Criticism of the Church of Scientology often includes details of the Xenu story. The Church has tried to keep Xenu confidential[4] but critics say the story should be made public, given the high prices charged for OT III, part of Scientology's secret "Advanced Technology" doctrines taught only to members who have already contributed large amounts of money to the organization.[5] The Church avoids making mention of Xenu in public statements and has gone to considerable effort to maintain the story's confidentiality, including legal action on the grounds of both copyright and trade secrecy. Despite this, much material on Xenu has leaked to the public, largely via the Internet.

It's a wacky belief system but is actually very sad when scientologists like Jenna Elfman do things like refuse to sign autographs for an auction to raise money for children with HIV. She will not support any charity organization that raises money for AIDS research or relief. Her reasoning was "AIDS is a state of mind, not a disease." To her AIDS and all other diseases are caused by the ghosts who were nuked 75 million years ago. :monkey2

At least she's choosing not to help instead of actively stopping others from helping. Although if she convinces others not to help... Imagine if a Scientologist was President and cut off AIDS research based on those beliefs. Frightening.

I read it as her actively encouraging others not to help as it's all in their heads.

I've also heard some who believe in reincarnation argue that the poor, sick, etc should not be helped by anyone because they are living a life of pain and despair as punishment for sins and mistakes they made in their previous life. Charity, these extremists say, will actually hurt them by prolonging their cycle of reincarnation.

A Religion that charges hundreds then thousands of dollars for you to get anywhere in it.

I've read of people ending up broke because they decided to try it. I just feel sorry that they even bothered. How far in the deep end do you have to be? Bunch of weak minded *******. You HAVE to be rich in order to do something this stupid. Because then you could afford it. :D

Out of all the Religions, Scientology scares me. If you could even call it a Religion.

Who bets Wake_Up, in the comments section, is a Scientologist?

Nah.

Talk about an ironic name.
