are u really quitting the show?

I am. I've had one foot out the door since Beth was cruelly executed (also in a cheap, manipulative manner.) She was the last character that represented optimism and goodness and her positivity had a trickle down effect on other characters like Daryl and Maggie. The light just went out of the show after she was killed off and I've basically been hanging around to see if that was something they'd ever rectify. They didn't. They introduced Morgan as a replacement Dale/Hershel but his position of moral conscience appeared to be nothing more than trauma induced insanity. Not the same thing.

I think Gimple and Kirkman are just relishing in reliving one Beth moment after another and I'll have no more part of it. Even ignoring the nihilistic tone and contempt for the audience that Gimple seems to have the writing has just been getting worse and worse anyway with characters seamlessly alternating between superheroic immunity to abject stupidity depending on what shocking thing they want to occur in any given scene. I gave the show more than enough chances, I'm out.

I actually think it was worse than an Eli Roth film. Usually even in the most brutal of films there is still SOME sense, however small, of catharsis at the end. Somebody escapes, gets revenge, kills or hurts the bad guy in some substantial way, *something.* Last night's episode was just an exercise in vulgar nihilism, relishing in manipulative gore, serving NO purpose than these two things: 1. Make you feel horrified and hopeless and sad and 2. Make you hate Negan so that you can enjoy his comeuppance umpteen episodes or years from now. Nothing else. To me that isn't entertainment. And I can handle gore in other contexts. The worst moment of the episode wasn't even the brain bashing for me, it was sequence with Carl's hand. That was repulsive in its manipulative cruelty and I don't even give two rips about Carl. It was just having my mind "go there" as a dad. Despicable. All IMO of course. I'll semi-monitor the show for spoilers from time to time but I have purged all scheduled recordings from my DVR.

It was truly a great show for a time.

I couldn't have said it better myself, that's exactly how I feel. If they had made this a two hour ep. and had some catharsis at the end like every good horror movie has then there would've been some possible enjoyment, but this ep. just felt like extreme torture porn.
I'm canceling it on my DVR too.

What were y'all expecting? I get not liking that kind of thing. Lots of people don't. What I don't understand is how you've gotten this far. It's been a gory, torturous show for a good long time. That's kinda the point. It's the driving force behind the whole thing. The comic. The show. "Things can always get worse" ought to be the tag line. Because they always do. A hint of peace or happiness ... and then yank the rug out from under them in a newly horrific way. For instance ... I don't see how you get past cannibals cracking people in the head with a bat and then slitting throats down a line, and then throw in the towel at this. This wasn't that much worse. If at all.

Honestly, I don't care for gore. I'm not squeamish ... it's just usually unnecessary. But, I like TWD in spite of the gore.

If you can get past what's gone before, I don't see how you're all that bothered by this. It was mostly more of the same, at least with regard to the horror of the situation and the goriness of the deaths. Dale was disemboweled, for heaven's sake. Cannibals ate what's-his-name's leg. Noah had his face torn apart up against a pane of glass. How was pulverizing their heads that big a departure?

I just finished watching. I am not ashamed to admit I wept at the end. I guess I am not as desensitized as I thought. I will definitely be back next week. And the week after that. And the week after that. I want to see how Negan gets it handed to him.

Jesus, you fellas sound like those butt hurt ladies that quit GOT after the red wedding, lol.

Oh well...best of luck to you and your future television endeavors.

And yes, Negan threw the hatchet on top of the RV. Not that hard to do with something so heavily weighted on 1 end like a hatchet is.

I knew what was coming last night and while I commend the writers for the brutality and the suspense, I was hoping I'd have emotionally been more impacted. I also thought it was too much about Rick. Seeing his spirit break was cool but more time should have been spent on the rest of the crew. I remember seeing an old clip that was supposedly a leak of Glenn's death scene. You heard the cracks if Lucille on Glenn's head and you can hear the others crying out desperately trying to comfort Glenn, such as Rick yelling something along the lines of hang in there or we are right here. You also heard heartbreaking, haunting screams of agony from Maggie. Where was all that? It was so much more devastating.

Aside from the visual gore, I was indifferent. Abraham I can understand--he was a mediocre character who had a few nice moments. I wholeheartedly expected to reel from the loss of Glenn more and I think I would have if I didn't think him getting out of that dumpster fiasco was sloppy and half-assed.

I think I hurt more that Rick and Shane couldn't find redemption or that Tyreese died the way he did. Aside from of course Sophia and Beth's deaths.

I'm not trying to be that guy who says that this wasn't a tough episode. But the creators kind of asked for this with such a cliffhanger. All these months we've been numbing ourselves to the fact that it was going to be total devastation. I don't even post in the walking dead threads and even I knew it was going to be either Glenn or darryl. But I honestly wanted to be hurt more last night.

The talking dead was more upsetting than the show.

It’s interesting in that you are not the first people I have heard saying they are, or are close to, being done with this show based on last night’s episode. For years people said the show was too tame and it can’t compare to GOT and the Red Wedding. And others saying they were bummed the Governor was so tame in the show and they wanted Negan to be shown in all his comic nastiness and they end up showing exactly that and now people are upset. I understand everyone has their limits but for people to ask for this and then be bummed when they get it just doesn’t make sense to me. Not specifically calling anyone here out it’s just a general statement from all I have read so far on all sites. I will add that I told my wife I heard it was going to be nasty and she decided not to watch it and now she could be a little iffy going forward… we’ll see… but she just started watching about a year ago so she’s a “casual” fan to start with.

Basically after last night, all i can kept thinking is do i really need to watch this show. I actually walked out with about 20 min to go. Whats the point of this show anymore? As I have watched it over the years i always was just hoping for some "hope" in the show. Like maybe there is something to look forward to by the end. But there really isn't. its all death and murder. Even if Negan is killed down the road, whats the point? His death will never be enough to make up for all the things he just did and will do. I feel like i have had enough of this depressing world. I know its all in the comic and i have read about 1/2 the series, but even in the comic I had enough. The Governor was far worse in the comic and I barely made it through that. I just have no need to watch this kind of death and murder anymore. I can't sit through multiple of seasons of Negan. he is horrible and evil and i dont need to see it. So i'm done.

I'd attribute it to show fatigue. I've been watching TWD since the premiere and I do like horror movies, but I've just had enough, especially the negativity of the show at this point. That's also the reason I stopped watching Fear TWD, It's just more of the same.

I don't think you have to show everything in order for it to have worked. In fact I think it would have been far more intense if they hadn't shown Glenn, and just kept Negan's dialogue. Most of the mutilation that's occurred so far on the show has happened to zombies. I really don't need (or want) to see Glenn's eye falling out of his head as his skull is bashed in. It was practically torture porn. And seeing it made me feel more disconnected to the characters if anything. It's cheap shock factor. I'll probably watch the next couple of episodes, but if it continues like this, I'm done. I don't think I've ever had a problem with violence in television or movies before, but this was just too much. It didn't elevate the scene in anyway. Just unpleasant.

what's ironic is that they did the cliffhanger in order to guarantee more people tuning in for the new season and for people to be excited and the new season and the outcome of the cliffhanger is what will make a lot of people turn away lol.

Negan and the death of Glenn might be what kills the show. Their little cliffhanger and idea to have more people in suspense might have just killed the show lol

(Imagine what would have happened if the Governor did everything he did in the comic, the show could have ended by season 4)

I can understand that. There really doesn't seem to be an "end" to this and it will just be one bad guy after another... like bosses in a video game.

The deaths in last night's episode were graphic in nature. No argument there. If people are watching this show for "the light at the end of the tunnel" or to see the bad guy get his due at the end of the episode, then this show might not be for you. There is a saying I am sure many of you have heard before. It goes like this, "Tough times don't last, tough people do." I try to live my life this way as much as possible and it is applicable to many situations, including the world of TWD. Rick and company are going through a tough, probably the toughest, time right now. They have "survived" it now and I will be watching to see how they get on their feet and show Negan and company how tough they really are. If it got resolved within the same episode, it would feel very cheap to me and would trivialize the sacrifices and deaths of Glenn and Abraham. I am in it for the long haul with this show. Lots of good stuff (and bad) to look forward to.

What is with the instant gratification in society these days?? People seem to think they are entitled to answers right away or else they get upset. I suppose technology in general (internet, smart phones, etc) have conditioned many of us to have this mindset by providing information right at our fingertips whenever we want it. So many viewers were upset with last season's cliff hanger because they didn't show us who got hit. I agree with the frustration, but at the same time I liked it because it gave us all something to talk about and theorize about until next season. (Not sure if most board members will remember this but back in the 80's the show Dallas had the "Who shot JR?" cliff hanger one season and that was all anyone talked about that summer. I didn't even watch the show but you could go anywhere without someone tlaking about it and theorizing about who did it. I look at last year's cliff hanger the same way. Additionally, now that we have all seen last night's episode, we all know why they waited. It would have cheapened Abraham's death if he died last season and then everyone would have been focused on Glenn's death last night.

Anyways, people want to leave the show, that is theri perogative. Me, I'll be the last one out to shut the lights and lock the doors.

I'm seeing three types of response at the moment:

1: Repulsed and tempted to stop watching

2: Enjoyed it and thought it was a good homage to the comic

3: People who liked it but are now making passive aggressive attacks on those who were repulsed.

Why do people get so offended when someone says something negative about something they like?

I like grapes. But if someone said to me 'grapes suck' am not going to change my opinion on grapes and neither am I stop going to eat them.
I would say 'that's cool that you don't like grapes'.

When people get overly protective and defensive about something they like, it helps in showing how insecure they might be about it.

Not everyone is going to like the same stuff.

I didn't like this episode. That's cool.
Some people did like it. That's cool too.

It's a show about post-apocalyptic zombies -nothing really matters anyway!

How's everybody feeling today??? What an episode last night. Wow! Most intense episode of the series for me hands down. Now it makes even more sense why they left the cliff hanger at the end of last season. We got two deaths instead of just one and I was thinking first Rick and then Carl might lose a hand before the episode was done. Absolutely brutal, but that is exactly what Negan represents. He rules through fear and force and now Rick and the group fear him. I couldn't believe how graphic the beatings were, especially Glenn's. We got the scene from the comic with his popped out eye and tryign to say good bye to Maggie. Yeah, I admit I haven't been the biggest Glenn fan lately, but you had to get a little choked up at his death scene and words to Maggie. Curious to see how this plays out now. So glad this show is back!

I got really choked up at Glenn's words to Maggie because they were almost exactly what my brother said to his wife before he passed away. :(
