It was all building up to last night’s season premiere, when Negan and his baseball bat Lucille went after the show’s heroes. Abraham died. Glenn died. The episode added cheap tension by leading the audience to believe that Rick would cut off his son’s arm. It was horrifically violent. It was cruel. And the show had the audacity to slap on some cello score and a "what could have been" fantasy sequence to make sure the audience was manipulated as much as possible.

This wasn’t quality television, and it wasn’t suspenseful drama. It was torture-porn masquerading as storytelling, and AMC should be ashamed for airing it.

I am totally on board with banning grapes...and corn too while we're at it. They are the grapes of the vegetable world.

Geez. Not you buddy. But people need to get a grip!

I watched the show for nearly five years, but I guess stopping watching it negates my opinion. On top of not caring for the show anymore, I've really come to dislike this hive mind over sensitive fan base. You prove my point on that, thank you.

Goddamn. It wasn't an accusation. If you'll reread the response ... you'll notice I didn't even argue with you. I didn't say you should care. It just seems stupid to comment that you don't care about dead characters in a show you don't watch. Nobody cares about dead characters in shows they don't watch. Why bother saying it?

Do you post with the expectation that nobody will respond? Or, with the hope that somebody will respond, even with a completely innocuous response, so you can lash back about 'oversensitivity' and the "hive mind"? If that was your point, maybe just start there rather than with the stupid observation that you don't care about characters in shows you don't care about.

I've never been accused of being sensitive. Usually the opposite. My wife will be impressed. Heh. Personal growth.

All the butt hurts will Be back on board next week when the show is back to its usual lower tone.

I personally found the (every body hates Chris) dude getting eaten alive in front of glenn far more distressing.

Kewl story.

Technically, if you are watching a show you stopped watching you never stopped watching. :lol

I just watched the kill scenes only after a friend on here sent it to me, so I wouldn't call that "watching" it.

This is what the show needs to be honest. Dark and brutal, because the past 2 seasons things have gone downhill in terms of character development imo. Seems to me they struggle with where they want to take certain characters next because it happened too fast over the course of the first 4 seasons. And shows some fatigue in terms of that.
Some characters are stalling and just "there".

I can't believe the number of people complaining about the show's "brutality" because their kids were watching. Really? It's TV-MA and there were warnings all over it (and every TWD episode). And you didn't see it coming?

Intense episode. I get folks being turned off, but ultimately, hope is fleeting in Walking Dead. At the end of the day, Negan is right-no happy endings here. I reckon the show will end with Rick's sad and lonely demise, after everyone else he cared for dies. And I think that's fine. Because the drama really works (and that's what really distinguishes this show from an Eli Roth film IMO). Again, I can understand how some wouldn't feel the same way. But I enjoy Samuel Beckett.

I don't plan on quitting the show, but for me, that episode wasn't very effective, and almost boring. But I feel like I'm still too invested in it to stop.

Boring and ineffective because they don't understand the term "less is more". The gore was overboard and the hideousness of Glenn's final moments was just too sadistic and cruel. So much so that it had the opposite effect, it repulsed me so much that that it made me numb and I no longer cared. It was, as others mentioned a sideshow attraction and torture porn, if this continued every week, it might lose me, but for now, I'm still on board.

I did feel suspense, horror and finally relief over Carl's scene, that was really the only time that episode grabbed me. I'm glad it was just a fake out, cause that might have been too much for me, I don't know.

Negan felt more like a stand up act that just wasn't funny and went on too long. With any good villain, it's important that some part of us actually likes him. With Negan, I found myself a little bored.
