Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

You'd definitely need more than just a crossbow. Honestly, I'd rather have a shotgun, revolver, and a machete or bat. While cool in the show, I don't think its practical if multiple zombies are coming at you.

Just realized I might miss next weeks episode as I'll be flying to Cincinnati on business on Sunday.

They usually rerun the previous episode before the new one, so you'll be able to catch it the following week.

In a zombie situation, I'd definitely want at least a shotgun and a semi-auto pistol no doubt but as much as I'd like to, I wouldn't go around shooting every zombie I see like in movies. In fact I'd try to kill them as silently as possible or just avoid them alltogether. Guns would be reserved to fend myself against human assailants and as a last ditch effort since ammo would eventually become scarce. Still a crossbow or bow and arrow would be nice since if you are able to take the time to retrieve the arrow, it is reusable.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'd get a flame thrower and burn them en masse. Since were dreaming.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Flame thrower, definitely.

Then again, somebody needs to start working on a zombie scent that can be distilled from the remains, and sprayed on your person when out walking around. Wear some tattered clothes, a little make up, and you could play a round of golf without being interuppted.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

If you use a flamethrower, wouldn't you just have a horde of burning zombies chasing you? Seems like that would be twice as bad.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

The flames simply consume them. They are still flesh, right? The flames turn them into ash as flames always do. Burn their brain too. Or the flames burn off all the muscle preventing movement. Not like they'll stop, drop, and roll.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Yea, fire works pretty fast on flesh, and I'd bet that the oozy, fatty dead flesh burns even faster. It would incapicate them pretty quickly, I would think. And really, the point isn't to kill them but keep them from getting to you.

Which is why I don't quite understand why they aren't heading north yet...get some supplies, head to Canada, eh? Frozen zombies don't move much. Then again, it wouldn't make for much of a story.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Key West then, or some place similar. The island acts as a natural barrier.

To use a flamethrower you'd have to be at fairly close range, and I don't think the fire would consume them that quickly, and it's not like they're going to drop from pain or shock. Plus, you're carrying that heavy tank on your back making you less mobile. I guess if you could keep your distance long enough for the fire to burn them down to bone, it'd be a good weapon. If you're surrounded though, I think you'd just be a hot lunch.

Failed tactic. You're not going to be more than 20ft from them with a flamethrower and when you burn the horde, that's gonna turn their attention to you the minute it starts roaring, as well as every other zombie in the area. How fast you think you're going to run with those bigassed tanks (it's more than one) on your back? So you hide. Now you have a walking inferno (literally) following you and surrounding where you're hiding. Zombies that aren't on fire, quickly catch fire with minimal contact against those who're already burning, causing a fire that not only takes hours to go out (humans burn for a while, like candles), but possibly never given the amount of new zombies showing up for the fire show/bigassed smoke signal. If the fire doesn't kill you, smoke inhalation or oxygen depletion will. Of course, this is assuming they don't catch you while you're retreating, paw at you, breaking the hose from the tank to the ignition causing a leak which catches fire and causes the pack to flare and you to catch fire yourself and die one of the most painful death's possible. Either way... you're dead.

You need some weapon to take out zombies wholesale. The arrow here and knife there isn't going to really change your circumstance. Once you can remove them at large numbers, you can do things more easily like get food and water and pregnancy tests. Everything won't be a struggle.

Plus flamethrowers shoot more than 20 feet. It's a weapon used in combat so it has to have some prooven relaibility. Used pretty regularly for awhile too.

Your points are good, but I'm saying you have to change the way you're fighting or your quality of life will never improve.

Despite the inhumane factor, there are reasons why they aren't used in combat anymore. The ones you're talking about that have a greater distance are mounted on vehicles. You surround that with burning zombies and you're a baked potato.

The best weapons in a zombie apocalypse are a great pair of shoes/boots and your brain. Next two are a reusable weapon (aluminum baseball bat) and a way to purify water. If you have those, you'll have a good chance of survival. Quality of life is nonexistant the minute the outbreak starts. If that's what you're looking for, grab a 5th of your favorite liquor, smoke a J and embrace the fact that you're basically no different than the local hometown buffet to a busload of fatties.

What about some kind of projected acid that would eat through flesh? Quiet and effective.

I know, I'm going into Ratchet & Clank territory.

And also as difficult to store as it is to use. You can't even risk spilling a drop of it, let alone inhaling the fumes from it. Best weapon to use against a horde to ensure your escape, is an Otis. :wink1: :lol
