I think it is budgetary ... cable networks have less ratings and lower budgets, so for equivalent quality, they do fewer episodes. Cable also shows more re-runs, so doesn't need to have wall-to-wall new episodes to compete.

I think 13 is enough for this type of show. I prefer short seasons like the Wire and Dexter. For me shows like Lost and Heroes were way too long, and there were too many sub plots that went nowhere so they could fill the 20 plus episodes a season

Just in case anybody wants to watch the series again or missed an episode AMC is playing the entire season 1 starting tonight (1/18) and finishing tomorrow night.

Also, I'm sure a lot of you have heard but there's some news out there that season 2 may start as early as July. Keep your fingers crossed!

I hadn't heard this. Maybe that is when shooting will start? I am of the mind set that I like each season premiering on Halloween. Yeah it makes for a longer wait, but good things come to those who wait.

NY Mag: When it was first announced that Breaking Bad's premiere was being pushed back to July, immediate speculation was that AMC was trying to help Mad Men's Jon Hamm get an Emmy by taking you out of the race. Do you think that factored into the decision at all?

Bryan Cranston: Not at all. It was a decision from AMC that they wanted to position us in July, along with Mad Men. And I believe they're going to put Walking Dead in July as well. I think it's just a sensible thing — they want to attract as many eyeballs as possible, away from the heavy competition of the September, November, January start. Also, Jon is fantastic. I'm a big fan of Mad Men. I certainly couldn’t complain if any one of the other actors had won those awards instead of me. I'm glad it was me, but I think it's great that I'm not eligible for an Emmy next year. It doesn’t bother me in the least.

That was the article I read about the possible July start of TWD. I hope it's true but I haven't seen anything official from AMC yet.

I read about it on Bloody-disgusting.com about Walking premering in July as well. Im ok with that, the more zombies and horror I can get the better.

Walking Dead is just about my top show. in fact most of my faves are on AMC. unfortunately it's one of the only channels frikken DirecTV does NOT have in HD. and it sounds like they're makin it their jobs not to get the channel in HD. i can't wrap my head around why. many of the tops shows are on AMC, and i know of many who're jumping ship over to DISH just because they have it. i'm very close myself.

anyone who has DISH, how has your experiences been w/ them? ya like'em? good service? ect.

I have several co-workers who jumped over to DISH...and they're all jumping back to DTV as soon as possible. Complaints about the service, lack of channels, etc.

I've had DISH for a long time. Other than the fact that DirecTV has resigned with TiVo and I like that interface better I've had no complaints about them. Their customer service is no different than any other I've had and I have no issues with the channels offered. I have the basic 250 plus the HBO/Showtime package and have been more than content.

As for TWD in July I'm excited that it'd start earlier but I'm worried that the show's production and overall look/feel will get hurt by rushing to get to this timeline compared to the original starting point of Halloween.

As much as I hate comcast, they are still the only one to offer everything I need, and they're number of hd channels right now is ptretty damn good.

I was shocked by their iPad app that lets me set recordings on any dvr in my house from anywhere. It worked easily, something that is not usual for comcast.

Just got into this maybe a month ago and had the episodes dvr'ed. It's just nightmarish. I didn't know it was based on a comic.

Ususally zombie stuff is reserved for the big screen so I wonder how it all ends. The show can't be them just running forever.

Well I don't know about forever, but the comic series that the show is based on is still going strong, so no end in sight yet.

them running forever is.. kinda the plan. Issue 81 hits stands early next month.
Kirkman has said he's outlined to issue 300 plus already..
sooo..

that's like another 20 years worth of the comic..

don't think he intends on stopping anytime soon.

The comic might not stop anytime soon, but I see the show easily having an ending. I love the show, but I just see people getting tired of it eventually and basically causing its demise.
