If it stays at this level, it will surpass Breaking Bad.

Hershel got it because the Governor was making a threat. Was Rick going to let the old man die? The Governor wanted to force his hand (and Michonne wouldn't give him the emotional leverage he needed). When it didn't work, two things made him cross the line. First was that he wasn't about to have his bluff called. Second was that Rick did not submit to his demands. Saving face and pure rage equals Herschel with half a neck.

As for Rick being weak, if he had drawn on the Governor he'd have been dead. Or what kind of badass are you guys looking for? What would you have done in the position he was in? His appeal to humanity in the face of being cornered by that maggot took more guts than anything I can think of. If there's someone here with more guts, please enlighten us with how you'd have done it better.

There's more to the character than doppelganging Clint Eastwood. He's not Dirty Harry.
Surpass Breaking Bad? :thud: Season's been good, but wow, that's pretty bold. Walking Dead's already had more than a few filler episodes thus far, whereas BB didn't have one, so yeah, no chance.

As far Rick goes, no-one's asking for a Clint Eastwood doppelganger. Just it would be nice if he could stop pleading and crying for one episode and just quietly do what needs to be done. They keep trying to hammer the audience with his emotional depth and it's a little tiresome for some.

What needs to be done? You mean not killing the Governor last season?

And I disagree on Breaking Bad. If WD keeps hitting climaxes like this, then it's already on its way.

Uh...NOT even close to BrBa.
Agreed. Breaking Bad had a clear and defined story from point a to b. The comic books won't be wrapping up for conservatively another 5-10 years meaning the chance that we will see the arc Kirkman envisions for Rick and the rest of the survivors play out proper on tv are close to zero. Plus AMC will milk this show because it's so differant it doesn't need to come to a close when the main character dies.

The Sorpanos suffered immensely because HBO threw so much money at CHase he'd have been completely stupid to say no to another season, one that he had never planned and penciled in purely for the cash. It's like having The Godfather, and right before it ends they convince you it needs another hour with Michael in a coma. You don't but hey, few million and who cares.

Did anyone notice "she" was one of the walkers?
She almost looked the same dead as she did alive! :lol

Yup. When Rick went down to talk he even said let HIM go. The gov knew that killing Herschel would have a bigger impact. And not just to Rick or his kids, but to the group as a whole. He could of assumed that after the group saw him kill an old man they'd lay down there weapons with or without Ricks command. Then he could've killed them all without having to lose any of his group.
Plus consider the last time the governor and Rick met Michonne she hadn't exactly been accepted into the group. Rick even considered giving her up. She was a loner for a long time and the gov knew that killing her wouldn't have had anywhere near the same punch as Hershel. And again I think he just really wanted to make her suffer. Obviously he couldn't accomplish that by killing her quickly.

I thought that women looked familiar. Too bad that Lilly chick didn't let the governor get eaten alive by walkers like he should've . That would've been justice, can't believe some of you were actually fans of the governor. It was crazy that those little girls offed those 2 baddies, I guess carol did something right in that regard, I imagine she will be back in the story at some point. I bet Rick and Carl come across her first. I was hoping Rick would beat the governor, but of course michonne would be the one to get the deed done.

Pretty good episode. I like how Ricked marched down to the fence with only his Python.

My wife was screaming for Rick to kill Govy. I didn't think he would bite it at the half way point. Too bad he didnt go out by zombies.

Over all it was some pretty good writing this episode.
Alot of things came full circle. Much pathos.
I liked seeing Hershel smile at Ricks impassioned plea.
He knew at the end he'd reached Rick.
Also being the faithful man of God and being martyrd by the evil Guv was worthy of the New Testament saints.
You earned your wings Hersh.

That pretty much nailed it.

No, it would just make them retaliate even more. Which it did. The Governor knew that. Better to threaten Michonne and/or kill her first to show how serious he was.

The end game made no sense, nor did the killing of Herschel or simply letting Michonne Sonic the Hedgehog out of there. If anything, the speech about coming back is what made the Governor snap. He knew he couldn't hence the "liar".

Gov's a random wild card, sure, but that and the flood waters walker was too contrived for my tastes. Right up there with Andrea getting bit. Still a great episode though.

He killed Hershell, because he knew Rick cared about him. The first thing Rick did was tell the Governor he wo
uld trade places with Hershel.

That was my one gripe. He should have been mauled and died with their smell in his head, knowing that he'd be one when the mutilation was done.

Why is it hard to believe some of us are fans of the governor? He was a great villain (in the comics and on the show) who stood out out as truly evil threat in a world where your inches from death at any moment. Sure he was sick as hell, but being a fan of him is no different than being a fan of the joker or Hannibal Lector etc.

flash flood warning? Seriously. Lilly couldn't even keep her daughter safe from a mud walker. Michonne wanted the Gov to become a walker so she could cut his jaw off and then tie a chain around him. LOL at Glenn, Sasha was able to fight. Glenn couldn't even get off the bus. No way they killed off Judith. None. Anybody think Carol ends up finding the little girls and Judith?

hehe, I've been waiting 4 years for this ep. . . I just wish they could've captured everything that happened in the comic prison assault in this episode.

I kinda wish the Governor would've won the fight, so you just WANT to see him dead. Him cutting off Hershel's head was a nice nod to the comic, but the Governor lived for quite a while and was a real ******* after that. There needs to be a real evil villain on TV, the bad guy you just love to hate and can't wait for his death. . . to really savor the death of the bad guy.

George Hearst. Greatest tv villain ever. Especially because he was a real man and you knew they couldn't kill him on the show because he made it out of Deadwood alive. I promise you, you will never feel more frustrated that a character was not brutally murdered.

I have yet to see that, but not having a proper ending kills my motivation.

I think a year and a half was enough to savor the Governor's death. Dragging it into the fourth season did away with any need to have him resurface later. If he had escaped twice, my opinion of last night would have been much different.

I couldn't help but think back to this thread when they started throwing punches. :lol

I'm glad someone remembered that at least :lol

People can accept Rick beating the Governor, but when he didn't.... excuses excuses :rotfl I hated Rick got his *** beat, The Governor (Morrissey) is such an imposing figure to the rest of the characters.

It has a proper ending even tho it got canned. They tied up like 90 percent of what they needed to naturally at the end of S.3. Only 2 threads for side characters were really still ongoing(Tolliver and Joanie Stubbs). There were no cliffhangers and it was the end to a long conflict at the end of the season so it feels quite natural unlike say Arrested Development or Firefly. There wouldn't be any ideal definitive endings since most of the main characters were real people.
