Speaking of the annoying chants, there is an article on WWE.com about the Yes chant here:

https://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown...l-bryan-and-stone-cold-steve-austin-sound-off

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin himself has weighed in on the matter. On Twitter, the icon of the Attitude Era replied to a simple question from a fan: "Yes or What?"

Austin’s response was surprising, to say the least: "haven't you heard? It's YES!"

Another fan asked for clarification from the legendary Texas Rattlesnake: "'Yes' is replacing 'what?'"

Emphatically, Austin replied: "YES! YES! YES!"

Looks like Nam is a true mark:

"[Bryan] went on to talk about the origins of what has caught on as his trademark catchphrase, stating, 'When I first started doing it, the only thing I thought was that this is going to annoy the hell out of people.'"

:D

It's not the "yes yes yes" so much as Bryan saying "yes yes yes." And in the end, it only hurts him because with the exception of his trouser sniffers, nobody else takes him seriously. Shanus will be remembered longer than Bryan.

Well, I guess we'll see. I'm sure folks (possibly you) were saying the same about Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Dean Malenko back in the mid-1990s when I was a huge fan despite their being mid-carders without polished mic skills. Bryan is a throw-back to those guys. Seamus is a 'roided up oaf. There have been hundreds like him, and though many of us still remember the Barbarians and Warlords of the past, it isn't necessarily for good reasons.

Actually, I was hoping they'd all be remembered. Unfortunately McMahon is a ********* and wants to distance himself from any liability in wrestling from dementia caused by continual concussions, so he completely obliterated Benoit from WWE/WCW history and Malenko will go down in my book as one of the most underrated individuals in professional wrestling. Unfortunately my book =/= that of mainstream wrestling.

I loved Chris Benoit, as much as that pains me to say it now... I remember being so pumped that he and Guerrero both won at WM XX.

:thwak :thwak :thwak :thwak :thwak :thwak :thwak :thwak

There should be no shame in that. What happened in his personal life was tragically horrific, but it shouldn't in any way diminish his contribution to Professional Wrestling. Matter of fact, it should bring more awareness of the damage these people are enduring and the dangers resulting from it.

That night almost had me welling up considering that they had been two of my favorites from the first time I saw them in 1995, and I never thought that would happen. In that same night, Guerrero beat Kurt Angle and Benoit beat HHH and HBK at the same time!

But Benoit's previous accomplishments are a bit tainted to me now. I haven't been able to watch any of his matches after what he did. Having said that, I do agree with both of you that his accomplishments are what they are, and helped to really move the business forward. Bryan has said before the Benoit was one of his primary influences, and I'm sure many other wrestlers on the independent scene feel the same way. Tom Prichard used to say that he would make all the WWE guys in the developmental territories watch a Benoit/Regal match from the Pillman Memorial show.

Stupid part of post is stupid. :duh :duh :duh :duh

You realize it wasn't roid rage, that it was dementia from repeated concussions, right? For someone accusing me of buying into hype, you sure deep-throated McMahon's bull____ position on Benoit.

I don't care what the real reason was for what he did, though there was likely a relationship between the concussions, drug use, and his own psychological issues. He still killed his child, wife, and himself. That taints what he did before that point, and makes me uninterested in attempting to get any enjoyment from watching it.

I sold my Benoit DVD set, and just about all of my wrestling DVDs for that matter. Whatever brought him to do what he did, drug use, concussions, etc, I can't help but think about the needless death. Sure, I still follow wrestling a bit but that was pretty much the end for me.

I didn't go that far with it, though it did make me less interested. More than anything, because he was my favorite wrestler and best embodied what it was that I loved about wrestling. His death and Guerrero's death drained my interest for awhile, and it was actually Ring of Honor (and guys like Bryan, Colt Cabana, Samoa Joe, and CM Punk) that really rejuvenated my interest in wrestling after that.

Sadly, my favorite wrestler in the '90s was Owen Hart. After his death, it went to Chris Benoit. :(

Owen Heart was one of the sloppiest wrestlers the WWE's had. He injured a LOT of people.

The one wrestler that I never really was into was HBK. I know he's a great athlete and performer but I just never liked him. I'm more into the wrestlers who can actually beat the crap out of someone in real life. HBK to me was just a dancing queer.
