I don't think this is the same thing.

Here, some kids that get punished do community service. Like those kids that picked on that lady on the school bus, they got one year suspended from school and 50 hours of community service with the elderly.

They get things called ASBO's here for Anti social behaviour and for doing stuff like that, which is just a slap on the wrists basically, it's pathetic.

National Service was an idea that came up here in the last decade, that would require every citizen to perform several hundred hours of unpaid work before they were 18 (or something like that).

Not because they committed any kind of crime. Just for being born.

They have something similar to that going on here at out highschool, you have to have a certain amount of community service hours before you can graduate.

That's just plain twisted.

I was a Boy Scout, and I never finished because I refused to do the final community service project. Mainly, I just didn't give a ____ about doing work for nothing other than being recognized for doing work. I can recognize myself for mowing the lawn just fine, thanks. Doesn't make me special and I wasn't going to pretend it did, just because a bunch of schmucks that did get off on doing work for nothing would call me an Eagle Scout for it.

Thankfully that stuff didn't happen when I was in school. I smoked a lot of dope and hardly attended classes, so no way was I gonna perform community service .

Oh okay, as I know it, it is peeps having to serve in the Military for certain period in their teens/twenties. So, similar thing but Military service rather than comminity/civvy service.

Our Catholic high school does that.

In our city high school, you basically have to do some kind of a senior assignment, which has to do with community help. Like some work with the elderly, humane society or something and report on it.

I don't see anything wrong with that really.
