I've truly broken out of the habit of criticizing my own generation. The fact is, millennials are working longer hours for far less, and it's harder to afford a decent living now than it was just a few decades ago. And I'm not talking about high school dropouts, but college graduates. It's also harder to break into some industries when older people aren't retiring (can't blame them, though). I also can't say that I know anyone in their mid 20s and older who are still mooching off their parents - but granted, it's far cheaper to live at home (and a lot of my coworkers are still with their folks).

I know that Fox News (especially Fox News) and a few of the other networks love to rail on young people as a kind of social disease, and they generalize the narrative by citing on a few examples. But, seriously, which generation didn't have its bad apples? I guess that fits with the narrative, for the geriatrics who watch still watch the news networks.

People love to work more hours. I haven't worked an office job in five years but when I did, and I'm in that no man's land generation, people wouldn't leave. It was always a race to see who would get in the earliest and stay the latest. Then add on that they all went out together after work. Employees would willfully spend 10, 12 or 14 hours together...voluntarily.

The millennials sold themselves out by working for free for years at "internships" and by not demanding that working only one job is okay. Look around LinkedIn and see how many of these kids work as a "fitness instructor", lulurose saleperson, etc

This is a pretty logical, well thought response. I've been on the side of criticizing the generation. But the amount of money people are losing on college, etc has really hindered the current generation. There was an article recently, blaming millennials for the fall of brick and mortar restaurants and businesses. The fact of the matter is that places like BWW charge too much for their wings. It's not millennials at fault for that, it's the fact that these chains keep escalating costs. I, personally have to pay about $400 per month towards student loans. I know some people who pay $1000+. That is really disruptive to general development of young adults. It's easy for people to find something to blame, but the other fact that college costs rise about 5-8% EACH YEAR leads to extreme debt. There's not enough effort at the HS level of educating kids about debt and college. There's just the assumption that a lot of people just go to college. By the time my oldest daughter is able to go to college we are looking at $300,000 if things continue like they are now. I think Millennials get way too much flak, IMO. I agree with your sentiment, Solidus.

Not everyone needs to go to college though. People who work in the trades are making a killing now.
The worst thing to happen to student debt was the government guaranteeing loans.

This is so true. Damn universities just keep raising tuition and fees because...they can. *******s.

Every other week i see articles attacking millenials for not going clubbing anymore, for not going on dates anymore,
Articles mocking millenials for staying home friday night.
They are completely aloof as to why this happens. Or whu young people dont feel likewasting money every weekend

if those arent millenials? who's into the clubbing these days?

i guess crows isnt down to be racist right now, sometimes he just wants to blurt out things like he has tourettes, but not today i guess. im polish and im ready to be offended, but i dont find myself needing to go to a club though.
