Yeah spirits at the pub is expensive. Whenever I'm out I'll drink beer.

8.50 per drink. I thought breaching the 5 euro mark by 50cents was bad enough - the typical cost of a pint of lager now. So to be closing in on a tenner per drink, well, I am reluctant.

Wow! That is high! I can get a Long Island Ice Tea for $6 around here and a well vodka is $2.50. Beers are usually $2 a bottle or $10 a bucket.

I used to drink it on ice, as I've gotten older I find I prefer it straight.

I should really try more of the British whiskeys considering I, you know, live in England :slap

One of these days I'm going to splash out on some Japanese whiskeys, there's a shop near to me that carries Yamazaki and Hibiki but they're murderously expensive.

The Irish make a good whisky too, but I always seem to go for the scotch. I haven't tried any Japanese whisky, but they have a good rep and I always think about reaching for one before going with something else. I'd be going for the lower end, they are dear. My daily scotch is about a 30 quid lower mid-range number, and the most I can let myself spend on a nicer drop is 60-70 quid.

I was over at a rich friend's place a few months back and they pulled out a saki. Very different from the cheaper stuff I've had in restaurants, incredibly smooth and tasty - but I don't know enough about what's good to start buying it.

Saki
And Captain Morgan reserve for me.

Sake is a bottomless pit, there's so much variation. Some are best chilled, some are best at room temperature, some are best piping hot - and on top of that they tend to vary wildly in flavour and smoothness. The hot variety is my personal favourite but the good stuff can get very expensive...

A bottle of Hibiki whiskey is about £100-120 here, maybe if I have nice cash windfall one day I'll treat myself.

Honestly I fell for the better “cheap” stuff....unfiltered bottles...

I am seriously in the unfiltered sake category.

Also most people in Japan do not drink sake hot....

Yes, you should generally never heat up or chill expensive sake, it ruins the flavour and aroma. The cheaper stuff actually benefits quite a bit from being warmed, which was the traditional way of serving it before smoother blends became the norm.

Either way it can be dangerous.....I have not had great sake since I have been back....even the cheap stuff over there was light years better than the crap served here.

I did buy an import at the grocer that was directly sent from Kawaguchico......that was filtered and really really good...

Scary good? I've seen it around.

I will see if I can find some mead. My memory was it was sweeter than I wanted but I might like one with more whiskey bite.

Scary, 9.5% abv. They have a creme brulee stout that's 10%.

Just look for something homemade if you want stronger mead.

If someone showed me that pic i posted without any context, My first question would be
"did they made a superman movie with mel gibson in the early 90s that i missed or something?"
