Pretty sure there's a trade off to using DDT. Mosquitoes been around since, what, the dinosaurs? It will come around to us one way or another. Not saying we should do nothing. Think we are handling way better than South America but then again, US have the cold temperatures.

The trade off is a dramatic reduction in mosquito borne illness (in this case, one which disfigures babies).

I understand that there are people who find that less frightening than DDT. I believe that is why it has been banned.
