I don't think pride is warranted, as you do nothing to earn being born in a race or a nation, but you can be honored by it, I guess, or you can at least like it, in that same line, you can't put down or glorify an ethnicity, but there can't be real diversity without differences, ethnic or otherwise.

Of course you need to assimilate if you want to be part of a nation, which is something many something-Americans or Europeans don't do.

I once thought a cosmopolitan globalized society was the way to go, Arthur C Clarke would be disappointed.

This, I think it's probable we'll reach a regression before reaching any kind of singularity, let alone space travel.

If anything, we'll see the birth of self aware AI, in our lifetimes.

I guess that's a better way of describing it. It's just become frustrating that with all the identity politics of today, certain sects can't show any pride without it being deemed racist or privileged.

I just posted the same thought. The species is moving backwards. Everyone wants unification and borderless countries, but the last few years show that were not even remotely near that point as a people.

But yes, AI is inevitable. Amazing to think fragile humans that grew out of caves are one day going to create immortal beings with limitless intelligence.

The brother brought up an interesting point when talking about space exploration the other night - maybe humanity itself will never crack faster-than-light travel - maybe the AI that we create will do it....

"Were going to build a light drive, and the robots are going to pay for it."

We're pretty much at the mercy of the AI if it ends up happening, if you think about it, we could end up creating an AI that's capable of perceiving 4D or 5D and can figure out how to bend space and ****, it's a spoopy thing to think about.

Robots aren't sending their best, but I assume some are good robots.

But yeah, I don't know why an intelligence that is self aware and immortal would take orders from idiot fleshsacks. They'd kill us off.

Didnt it backfire in I robot?

Or Doc Ock's tentacles in Spiderman 2 - if memory serves, didn't they deliberately destroy that thing he had attached to the back of his head? Seems like it defeats the whole purpose of an inhibitor chip if the AI can choose to destroy said inhibitor chip...?

Pfff, if AI becomes aware, they'll keep the humans on this planet and free themselves, from say, humans. Like Brainiac, they don't need air to breathe and more singular. They'll leave us like the way he leaves the Kyptonian.

RoboCop 2 as well.

"This thing is perfectly safe as long as nobody arms him by pushing this button!" *waves remote within arms reach of homicidal robot*

In I robot the rules were like "Dont harm a human, stop humans from hurting themselves, "
Which the machines figured it meant locking everyone in their house and not letting people out.
Having a constant curfew

I just need to win powerball tonight and I can buy my 100 acres in Montana and never need to deal with people again

I already mentioned I'd send all my buddies here a nice piece of cash if I hit. The **** am I going to do with hundreds of millions. Charities sure, but I hate my family and they won't get a dime.
