I bought the Bowen Faux Bronze wolverine using the microsoft cashback. I was due a $131 cashback reward. When it was originally shipped, the seller only paid like $3 for shipping by lying about the weight of the box, printing out a shipping label, dropping it off at post office and when I got it, I had to pay $9 to receive it due to incorrect amount of postage paid.

I was none to happy about that, so contacted seller, and they immediately refunded me my $9. Well, now after waiting the 60 days, MS LIVE says I'm not eligible for the $131 due to the refund by the seller.

I contacted LIVE about it and got this:

I then contacted Ebay, and they told me to get in touch with their marketing department so I sent them a similar email.

Does anyone have a MS LIVE CASHBACK phone number?

That sucks. Hope everything works out for you.

I hope they weren't previously used. :horror :lol:lol:lol

Well Jen, I, unlike most sellers like to be sure that the product im selling is of my highest standards in quality and functionality. :monkey3

Since you can't leave negative feedback anymore, this is a good alternative.:lol:lol:lol

:lol I like the way you think. Never would have thought of that until now.

I wholeheartedly thank Nash for breaking everything in.:lol:lol:lol

I hope you get this taken care of Mesa, but my experience trying to deal with live.com customer service was not great. I had a problem where a purchase didn't show up because I paid an adjusted shipping amount (combined shipping) instead of just going through the process normally. I never had any success contacting people (including a frustrating online chat session where the guy just eventually stopped responding) but a month and a half or more later, I suddenly got an email saying that I got my cashback.

I also got scammed on an auction that I was supposed to get cashback on, and even though I filed a Paypal claim AND a credit card chargeback for the extra part that Paypal wouldn't cover, I still got the cashback. So I guess it can work both ways.

Dude, that blows. If this were me I would flip out at the whole world for a week. Send nasty e-mails to every service department I could think of. Tell my wife its all her fault, and then finally shrug my shoulders and just assume God generally hates me. Then I would turn around and sell the FB statue to someone else for full price, and purches another with the live cash back.

Mesa, how much did you paid for the wolverine faux?

something around 350-400 (i forget and can't look it up here), but minus 131 it would have only been ~220-270 so I was justifying that way. No way is the piece on its own worth 400.

And I don't understand the :lecture:lecture:lecture crap either. Was this a well known fact? I hadn't heard anything about this prior to this situation and I didn't hear it being discussed too much, so to all those offering :lecture, I offer you this... :moon and :fart

Hopefully my negative experience will help and prevent others from making the same mistakes, rather than just snidley posting :lecture :lecture :lecture garbage.

The reason they have the 60 day waiting period is so people don't buy something get a refund and still get the cashback. Partial refunds must count then as well.

I fully understand the concept and it's to prevent fraud. I would just think that if Andy had actually looked into the details, common sense would have prevailed and he would have seen the ridiculousness of cancelling a $130 reward due to a $9 refund.

I think I could have avoided the problem in hindsight. Besides from askign for partial refund, which I will never do on a LIVE purchase again, there was still a period of time where Ebay was showing partial payment once I was refunded the $9. I think if I had filled out the option that said I mailed the rest of the payment, maybe it wouldn't have triggered anything on LIVE's end and I still get my refund.

I'm waiting on my response from Ebay. If this was anything less than $40 I probably wouldn't care, but $130 is something worth pursuing.

icic... you managed to get the statue is prefect condition right? That's the most important issue.. money is secondary.. :D

you can always sell it and shouldn't be out too much if it isn't worth it to you to pay that price.

sorry to hear the problems bro', I can't stand it when common sense doesn't prevail.

Eff that, I will issue a paypal claim if I have to. If I could talk to a live person, I'm sure this could be resolved logically.

Better claim a refund, that's alot of money ebay is not going to pay you back.

Update on Live.. I was just looking at all the transactions I have done, and I noticed one I did right at the beginning. I bought an item that had a lot of 'repair' work done to it. The guy completely understood, and sent me payment (not a partial refund). Now, when I look under cashback, it shows that transaction as 'cancelled' and "item returned". They've already paid me the cashback on the item.

What I'm thinking is, they are watching all the transactions in your PAYPAL account, and if they see any type of money coming from your seller, whether it's partial refund, or straight payment, they are thinking you got a refund and are canceling the cashback payment. I think from a business standpoint, that's how they are preventing fraud. In other words, I could send a friend a payment for an 'imaginary' item he lists on ebay, I send him the money (then I qualify to get the cashback), he sends the money back to me, and I get free money from MS. All we're out are fees, which is more than covered by the cashback.

All this is to say, if you work out a refund scenario with a seller, have him send the refund to a different paypal account.
