My guess it's under $50

Me, I'll pass. I'd rather have a studio scale puppet.

NOOO!!!!!!!

I can only get to CIV for Sunday afternoon and Monday. I just read that Sideshow is closing up shop Sunday at noon, at which point all attendee orders will be cancelled. So by the time that I get there, it will be too late to pick up any exclusives.

Looks like I will be getting there an hour or two after Sideshow stops allowing attendees to pick up their orders, even though the convention will still be running for another day and a half. This is really disappointing news, since the dates of the show were announced as Thursday through Monday. I wonder if I should still try to go now that I know I can't have any exclusives to bring home with me, unless I feel like fighting the crowds of thousands for the leftovers on Monday.

Goodbye, space slug diorama!!!

That really sucks. Wonder why they are doing that?

Well, I shouldn't say "closing up shop" because they will be selling the cancelled orders on Monday to attendees who didn't preorder. I just don't think there's any way I can get there by noon and get my order picked up before they cancel it and give it to somebody else on Monday.

I never looked at the dates I didnt realize it ran thru Mon.

That was the only reason that I was going to be able to go--because I could get there Sunday afternoon and still enjoy a day and a half of the convention. Now I am rethinking my plans. If Gentle Giant has the same rules about picking up exclusives by noon Sunday, then I might cancel my trip. This is what the official Star Wars website said about merchandise:

One of the highlights for fans at a Star Wars convention is the chance to buy unique merchandise, including an exclusive, limited-edition action figure. Because this has led to bottlenecks and long lines in the past, the Celebration IV store will be bigger than ever, self-service, well-stocked with merchandise, have plenty of check-out lanes...and be open 24 hours a day from the opening of the show on Thursday until the close on Monday!

That made me think that if I got there Sunday afternoon that I would still be OK to pick up my preordered exclusives.

That really sucks for everyone who can't get there in time. On a better note I liked the podcast message about not being able to send out a specific # for any limited edition figure... good job Tom you got them to make a disclaimer. :D

Honorable mention at least!

Can you imagine if your petition worked? There would be no end of "petitions" for specific things.

I think you'll get #42... but through a board member.

I totally understand that this would have been a huge can of worms for Sideshow to open. This is the result I expected all along.

What a lovely first glimpse of the Diorama to wake up to!

It looks exactly as it should -- I hope everyone who's passing was going to do so anyway, since there's just no way that anyone can be disappointed in the sculpt and composition. (Well, maybe the white pole supporting the wee Falcon is a bit of a letdown -- I hoped it would be simulating the exhaust and go straight out of the engines, not stick out at an angle like this.) It's great that it has a starfield background, as that's the way I'll display it whether it actually comes with one or not. And it's nice that it's a plaque, too!

(Those mentioning penises ought to tattoo Dusty's immortal words on whatever comes handy to them -- "It's not that small, and is fun to look at.")

And Tom -- dude, what's this with Sideshow and you and letdowns this week? First the wrong-numbered Boba, now the Attendee shop closing before you can get to it? Surely they can set your orders aside for a few hours longer -- it's YOU, after all! They can't be ENTIRELY heartless!

I am but a mere speck of dust in the scheme of things!!

They obviously made this decision for a reason. They wanted to have some to sell at the convention to people who just happen to be walking by and want to pick up a souvenir. Rather than setting aside a portion for non-preordering attendees and selling them to conventiongoers, and then releasing any potential unsold items from that allotment to non-attendees on the wait list after the show, they decided to sell the entire attendee portion in advance--but only give attendees who preordered a limited amount of time to pick up their orders. After the deadline all unclaimed orders will be cancelled and the items will be sold to casual customers at the convention. That still gives attendees (who preordered) all of Friday and Saturday and a few hours on Sunday to pick up their orders. (The convention actually begins on Thursday, but it is not open to the public that day, only to members of the Star Wars fan club.)

Since I can't get there on Friday or Saturday or early Sunday, then I am left out of the celebration when it comes to Sideshow exclusives. That's OK--I understand that they need some time to sort out the unclaimed stuff so that they can put it up for sale to people on Monday. Maybe I can get lucky fighting the crowd--but I'm not holding my breath. I think I am going to try to order online along with the non-attendees just in case--I just hate to take a figure out of the hands of someone who lives out of state when I was actually going to be at the show, just not soon enough to claim my order. But again, every decision is made for a reason, and Sideshow decided that this was the best way to handle the situation.

I have been at SDCC and seen people walking by the Sideshow booth wanting exclusives, only to hear that they were all presold in advance and are all sold out. This gives people who have never heard of Sideshow a chance to blindly walk by their booth on Monday and possibly go home with a Yavin Luke. If it gets another person into Sideshow for the first time, then that's cool in my book.

Those exclusives are different - I think maybe they are the 'official' StarWars.com Exclusives. Ours are not technically 'C4 Exclusives' since we are selling them outside the Con as well, so as not to leave anyone out. Also, they will be picked up at our booth, not the general booth that this quote mentioned. Tom, why don't you try calling/emailing CS and explaining your situation? Not sure that they can make an exception since there will be thousands of people picking up orders, but as you know, doesn't hurt to try ;) Or you can order the Non-Attendee just to be 100% safe...

Amen! Sideshow does have a heart (or at least Dusty does)!

And it seems that you can't go wrong with a Non-Attendee PPO, Tom -- especially now that the points easily make up the difference in price point. Hope you don't end up missing the Con just because of this preorder, however it turns out for you!

Thanks, Dusty!!

The Star Wars article had me thinking that all of the commerce was going to be in a giant store area that would be open through Monday.

I don't want to be the one guy in the crowd of tens of thousands whining and demanding to be treated as an exception to the rules, so I think I am going to try my luck at the non-attendee ordering and just not worry about getting there late. I do think it's cool that people at the convention will be given the chance to get something without having preordered--or even having heard of Sideshow before--and I'm sure that the vast majority of those who will be preordering won't have any problem picking up their order on Friday or Saturday. I just wish that my schedule allowed me to be there the entire time. I literally have to choose between the first two days of CIV or finishing up the last of the work I need to earn the Master's degree that I have been working on for five years, and I can't reschedule. So my hands are tied. Add that to the fact that it's looking very unlikely that I will be able to get to Comic Con this summer because of a work related conflict, and you have a very bummed out board member here...
