Uh-huh... Education is very important!!

The system. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Way to go Dannie. You learn fast. That's education right there. :rock :rock :rock

If someone were enterprising enough they could put these publications on line and give students access at a nominal price.

It's a good idea in theory but can you imagine reading 30 pages of chemistry online?

It was just a random thought that happened to pass through my head at the time. I have many ideas about these educational books, and ways to circumvent the existing system, but I don't have the American education experience, nor the Australian one, to make properly applicable realistic suggestions to those who suffer from having to abide by the existing system, and it's tyranny/monopoly in their business practices.

As for reading 30 pages of chemistry on line, it can't be any more difficult than reading 100's of pages on this forum can it? :lol Buy the old book cheap and print out the updates might work. As a theory, maybe the 'on line library' could offer the updates to previous publications.

In the end, systems need closer monitoring and maintenance, and as that isn't realistic, the problems only get aired when the the masses have had enough, which hardly occurs, or when a prominent person, or network, makes it more widely known, as is the case here.

I think President Obama's announcement will cause the educational system to tighten up their act and rally behind him. It would be nice if that happened of it's own accord, without intervention. It's interesting to see what the repercussions will be, in any case.

I think its fair that for every student that gets an "A", part of their grade goes towards those that didn't study for the exams or do their homework and scored "C's" and "D's". That way everyone is happy.

Yeah that's why I make a big part of my living stealing books the moment students put their bags down to grab a coffee from the cafeteria. Its soooooooooooo easy and quick money.

Especially the older students that prolly have 6 kids at home. And their faces..... :lol :lol That "WTF!" look when they come back to an empty table and scan the endless field of students flirting, laughing, dozing, studying.....

I finally have enough to get that Cinemaquette Predator from Alteregocomics. :banana

I am just glad you realized that this instead of stealing backpacks from homeless people was a much more rewarding enterprise.

Someone's bitter.:lol:lol:lol

No, I'm turning a new leaf. I'm ready to cash in under Obama's rule. I don't make $140k+, so bring on the free stuff that I deserve for being an American.

As far as cost of books go, aren't the principles/fundamentals basically the same, providing you're not buying a 30 year old book. I remember in college some students asked if they could use older revisions, and I remember teacher saying that if due to financial circumstance, exceptions would be made, and alternate homework problems could be assigned from previous revision.

Maybe it's changed. I do remember hating paying $75-$100 for a book, and only getting $30 on return, which is why I kept some of my college books and have actually used them since them, on rare occasion.

yup, i remember having to pay $5 for a stupid floppy disk in order to access the college computer lab! i figure it would be easy to just make copies and pass it around to others needing access. diskcopy, right? this was back in the DOS days. nope! it wouldn't work until i figured out that each disk had a hidden file that contained the authentication key! it was simple really. their computer checked for this key to see if it matched the floppy's volume serial number which was unique on every formatted disk. voila! luckily i found a program that could edit it to match the key! here's to FREE EDUCATION!!! :)
