He has a point. I had assumed that was how they were going to end it. Perhaps his return to Midgard will happen off-screen in Avengers - but it would have made sense to have him stranded on Earth. But without knowing the plan, it's rather presumptuous to assume that as a reviewer you know better than those who have outlined a 7 film arc.
I don't think Thor being stranded on Earth, as opposed to Asgard, would have been a bad thing. Instead they made a big deal at the end about denying Thor a love affair that really wasn't developed. Thor was on Earth like 2 days and he already found the love of his life and totally changed his ways? This wasn't much better of a turn-around than Anakin going to the Dark Side in ROTS, IMO.
Also, why didn't they try to develop a love triangle between Thor, Jane, and Thor's Asgardian squeeze, Lady Sif?
I agree with Dave, though, that we don't know where they are going with this.
