Those who disliked TLJ, are you still buying toys from it?

I loved the film on second viewing but I only collect OT figures.
I do buy the Art Of books to any film I like the look of though- including TFA and TLJ.

I'll probably get a few 3.75" figures from Solo. I'm very curious to see how people react to figures of Han with Alden Ehrenreich's likeness, and if they'll end up as pegwarmers or not.

Yeah, the Solo movie is going to be a major test - we've seen a recast/younger Ben in the PT, but a recast/younger Han seems different with Han being a major hero and HF being such a major star and so associated with the role. Maybe the new actor Ehren will create his own cool/distinctive vibe with some elements of HF, but it does seem like the whole thing could backfire.

Same here. I got a Kylo and Phasma before TFA came out because they looked cool. Most of the new TLJ toys are just regular people, which isn't nearly as interesting to me. There are a few gems like their new Boba from the Force Link two-pack, and the upcoming Hoth Luke, Hoth Leia, and Wampa figures.

I loved TLJ as much as TFA, so I'll definitely be getting several of the figures.

For me, it was Rogue One I skipped over. Didn't care enough to get any figures from it. I was tempted by Jyn, but that was it.

For those that hate the movie but like troopers, the Executioner figure by HT is a nice repaint, and the updated head is subtle but nice. Hope we get the updated Gunner as seen in the film for 1 sec lol

I am coming at this from a different direction. I went in the movie hoping it would convince me that I had to have some of these figures; particularly Luke. After see it, I am not interested in any of the figures. Not only that, now that we are two thirds through the new trilogy I am not sure I care much about it in general. Oh sure, they have provided some really nice moments and likable characters. I am not hating on it. BUT they clearly don't have an overarching plan or story as the Last Jedi just ignores and goes in a completely different direction from the Force Awakens and with JJ coming back, we are likely to get whiplash being forced back to his vision in the next one. I think in the end, while the commercialism of Star Wars will live for as long as Disney can keep it going, Star Wars in terms of having chapters in one continues saga ended with Return of the Jedi. These new Star Wars movies may be new Star Wars stories, and people can even like them and enjoy them; but in terms of "episodes" or "chapters" in one big story I don't think the new movies really advance the larger narrative in a meaningful way. I thought they still could after FA as it set the table to try, but LJ tosses out everything it said up and said.... nahhh. That might be cool and "meta" in the moment for those who think it made LJ "unpredictable", but if what is set up in one chapter doesn't really matter to the next then what's the point in pretending it's all one story?

Again, some nice stuff happens and LJ, and it takes place in the Star Wars universe for sure; but I don't think it really did a good job of continuing an overarching Saga and it doesn't look like we are going to get to some kind of grand conclusion to all the episodes so far (1-8) which is what it should be trying to do. They have really put themselves in a corner now for episode 9 to have a chance to conclude a story that started fine in FA (even though rehashed), but kinda restarted with LJ without taking the story anywhere really. Episode 9 now is supposed to conclude a story with two first acts, rather than a middle and conclude a 9 chapter Saga all at once.

Totally agree with you. I have been thinking that maybe the original idea was to end with kylo and Rey and the parentage scene, and when kylo makes his offer, that could have been the end. If Johnson was told he has to leave the story open for the next director, then it would make sense to not end on that note.

I just don't understand why they didn't at least outline 3 films so everyone understood where the story needed to go.

I don't know, personally I think TLJ feels a whole lot more consistent with the tone and style of TFA than any of the OT movies do with each other. And I also think it continues on the story in a much more natural way than the simplistic and uninspired ROTJ carried on from the emotionally complex ESB.

Yeah, the first two episodes seem like it could have taken place over the course of a week. I dislike the PT but, as with the OT, it at least depicts a longer period of time, which better fits in place with the idea of intergalactic civil strife. The new movies just seem more like a TV show where the action pics up from where we left off last week. Another thing the PT had going for it--different storylines from the OT, though TPM had quite a few similarities to ANH/ROTJ. The new trilogy storylines seem way to tied to the OT storylines.

Between ESB and ROTJ, there isn't much question the focus had shifted to merchandise. I think I heard they made twice as much from toys as the movies.

Yeah as much as I still love ROTJ, it definitely feels like Lucas was just phoning it in by that point. Which is something I don't feel at all with Johnson and TLJ. Whether you like his decisions or not, he at least made some bold choices and tried to explore these characters in some new ways.

And frankly the big "mysteries" of TFA never felt that important to me anyway. The idea of Rey as the daughter or Luke, Leia or Obi-Wan always seemed cheesy as hell to me, and Snoke was never presented as anything more than a generic villain, so killing him early was actually the coolest and most unexpected thing they could have done with him.

I've bought a fair few PT and TFA figures over the years just because I loved the designs (mostly clones and FO troopers, honestly), but I've yet to see a single thing from TLJ that catches my attention.
