It is true that Parker was an adult, both when he got the symbiote suit and when he first encountered Venom. But I thought everyone loved young Spidey. Those were, by far, the most iconic comics he was involved in, and when about 90% of his noteworthy villains first showed up (Green Goblin, Venom, Kraven, Mysterio, Vulture, Doc Ock, Chameleon, Lizard, Scorpion, etc.). I guess I can see Snikt's logic about him thinking that he fought Venom as an adult in the comic, so he should fight him as an adult in the movies (though it's pretty obvious Eddie Brock will be a good guy here, so any fight would last about half a movie at best until they started teaming up). But I can't agree with the broader argument.
Again, adult characters from the 80s and 90s McFarlane era like Venom, Carnage, Silver Sable and Scarlet Spider demand an adult Spider-Man and That's the era SONY seems to be adapting in their R-rated isolated Spider-verse.
