I think they wanted to cover all of their bases by making things unsafe EVERYWHERE.
"No escape" is the feeling I get from the trailers.... robots underwater, in the air, and many on the ground. You can't try to hide because a giant headless terminator will kidnap you, and you can't run because the moto terminators and HK will chase you down. If you try to fight, you have to face the HKs and Endos.
I do think it's overkill by having the T600,700, essentially a prototype T800 AND Marcus all in one movie. However, their reason for doing this could be to get them out of the way in order to introduce Future War battles with the T1000 and T-X's in the other movies.
btw-moto is the general term used for motorcycles (look it up)
Furthermore, SkyNet is software, so killing all the terminators in the world and destroying the SkyNet "mainframe" still wouldn't work. You'd have to shoot down all the satellites in orbit and find and destroy every bit of technology able to connect to the internet. It's not impossible, but that should keep the human race busy for quite some time.
