I have not bought a DVD or CD in years? You?

Hell, if it wasn't for torrents i would have never seen all of Walking Dead or Breaking Bad. Or even Sopranos.

I am pro torrents, i pay for my internet and this is what it brings me. Am i a bad guy?

:wave

Stealing is bad. The internet age still hasn't found the right way to monetize content.

I use torrents but not for everything. I tend to watch films at the cinema, and buy the ones I like best.

TV shows I watch via torrents because they don't come on TV where I live.

Music I either buy the CDs or use legal services like Spotify.

So according to you, torrents are bad. But you use them to justify a means!

Ok.

Same as people admitting cigs are bad and still smoking them :dunno

I use it but I still think it's wrong and it IS stealing in my book. If I didn't think it was wrong I'd probably be using them a lot more.

I don't really understand this poll. Torrents aren't "bad". There are a lot of legal things that are distributed through peer-to-peer file-sharing. Some independent music artists make use of Torrents to upload their songs, just to get their names out there.

But, if you're asking if piracy is bad, then yeah, obviously it is.

You will see a lot of people up in arms in this thread about if you didn't pay for it and you're watching it or listening to it without paying for it you're a thief. THAT is what i''m referring to.

(TV, you don't have cable but dl some shows. You don't have the CD but DL some songs etc.)

Right, but i'm pretty sure this thread is about the primary use of torrents which is piracy.

Well... You do not need to download shows to watch them... There must be 100 sites out there with the episodes ready to watch. No one downloads anything. You watch your show and that's the end.

I never understood why people download crap "just to watch" If they don't care about keeping it, why get it? why not just watch it and not Take it?
I don't know, I don't get it. Seems like a huge waste to me.

Specially if you delete them afterwards...

The way i see it is this.

I pay for my internet it allows me to torrent with ease. I can DL Walking Dead, without having to have cable TV. I am now a thief, and have no remorse, am i a bad guy?

If it weren't for people paying their cable bills, you wouldn't have those shows to torrent.

Those sites rarely have stuff in HD. I download in the best quality I can. Then delete.

I don't think you're necessarily a bad guy - I think you, along with millions of others are victims of the current system which has not recognized this thing called the internet and the fact that people are not likely to pay for content if it can be had for free.

Spotify has understood this model (though it's still far from ideal) - Content delivery for video is a lot trickier. Netflix etc haven't done as well as they could have. I think the most realistic solution right now is for YouTube to have license to distribute all major TV shows, and to monetize it via an ad you have to watch before playing.

Every musician and actor up until 100 years ago worked every time they got paid. Today's entertainers are no better and don't have a right to better.

Recordings allow entertainers to make more money than they would without recordings existing, and that is the bottom line. As long as recordings are sold, they can be copied. That is the other side of the coin.

The alternative is entertainers needing to sing for their suppers every night, just like people in every other profession, so all entertainers should be thankful that recordings exist in the first place so they can make any extra money at all.
No entertainer is entitled to a profit of every copy of a recording which people have.
People can loan their recordings to other people as well, and unless everyone wants to enjoy a recording at once, it basically nullifies the need for everyone to even have their own copy, whether they paid for that recording or not.

That said, I am glad that entertainers can make money for nothing, but they aren't entitled to it. No one is THAT special.
