All creative content should be paid for unless it's donated. It required time and effort to create. You derive value from it's consumption, the artist should be paid for some of that value, whether by the customer directly or through 3rd party means (eg advertising)

i use torrents. specially for those non mainstream and obscure bands only a select few knows about.lolz

i still buy cds. still go for and collect hard copies for my favorite bands.

I have not bought a DVD or CD in years? You?

Hell, if it wasn't for torrents i would have never seen all of Walking Dead or Breaking Bad. Or even Sopranos.

I am pro torrents, i pay for my internet and this is what it brings me. Am i a bad guy?

:wave

I pay for my car and the gas as well as insurance. My car drives me to the mall. Does that "entitle" me to take whatever I want from there?

Stupid.....

I guess if I write a book, I should only get paid for the original copy.

The crazy I thought frequented this board is looking a lot more evil than crazy...

the most entertaining/sad part is watching people create elaborate excuses to mentally justify stealing digital content for themselves... :monkey1...

Yes, its bad and it does make one a thief. There really isn't a grey area with this IMO.

Personally I don't use them, but I do feel if its been on free to air it is already openly available. I buy DVDs & CDs to support the creators of the content so they can create more.

It is stealing, and I don't do it. It's easy enough to wait for something to come on DVD, buy it, watch it, re-sell it, and you're out a fraction of the price you paid while being given the chance to watch whatever it is you are interested in.

But I'm not going to come in here as if I'm some authority on ethics. We all do bad things on some level or another, and on that issue there definitely are shades of gray. So if this is something you can justify to yourself, and you can look yourself in the mirror doing, then that's that.

Yup! I love me a good torrent. :yess:

I use torrents for 2 reasons:

1)To get out of print stuff.
2) To get stuff I am planning on purchasing.

torrents are notorious for spreading viruses, especially newly created ones that your anti-virus software hasn't developed a definition for. i wouldn't touch one with username's computer. :lol

plus many are federally monitored. they like to catch and fine copyright violators on the up and down.

I only get my torrents from closed sites. I don't even use piratebay.

and if you're downloading movies or music, will these closed sites give the end user up if they are busted? even if it wasn't their intention, seizing their logs can produce the end user's IP address.

I have a hard time imagining getting prosecuted for downloading some vinyl rips of old Greta Keller albums from the 30's. :lol

this is true. prosecution would usually apply for music not in the public domain. i think after 30 or 50 years, copyright enforcement no longer applies and people can use what they like royalty free, even as background music for movies and tv commercials. probably why you hear these old 1950 and 1960s songs in today's ads and productions.
