^ On The Thing 2011, because it was rushed. They had to replace every practical effect with CGI because the test audience didn't like it.

Now, the effects could've sucked. But i'd like to see them. I'd wager the audience is so attached to CGI now, any hint of practical effects annoys them, and makes them _____.

because that looks better than what was in the movie, that test audience needs to burn in hell lol,
This enhanced with some CGI would have looked better,
I mean, Ididn't know the whole story, I just knew that they replaced it,
but I don't think this looks bad,
seriously those people...:stake

:horror :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

All of that looked so awesome...:monkey2

Amazing work completely destroyed by computers. I really hope they eventually release a non cgi version on a special edition.

All that work... ALL that work... so that a bunch of Moron a___ oles would be like "Bah, looks ugly, give me CGI"
seriously that's one of those times you lose faith in humanity lol

but in all seriousness, that would have made the movie a Thousand times better, those things in that short clip are freaky, I mean, the weight they have is something CGI will never have, at least not now, I Love CGI for a lot of things, yes, CGI is amazing,
but practical effects still have their use with some things, like creature creation,

Looks damn good to me. Too bad won't get to see it.

Ok, saw this today, and liked it.

First things first, this movie is a visual marvel. Sadly, that ends up being this movies Achilles' heel. The first 30 min are awesome. I could have had Colin Ferrel just walk down the street to his house in The Colony - one of two livable areas left on Earth, aka Australia, the movie is that visually interesting. Problem is, this movie is in such a rush to get to the action stuff, that is really blows past great little character moments.

As a result, this movie is a series of missed opportunities.

The actors are great. Especially good is Colin Ferrel as Quaid. Kate Beckingsale did a great job with the action, but its almost like her director husband told her to do her best impersonation of the Terminator. She goes after Quaid in such a way, that it seems personal. But its not. She's just (apparently) gunning for Employee badass of the century from what I can tell.

Biel is given a thankless role - and while she is always easy on the eyes, and absolutely does what she can with an underwritten role, her character needed a little more. I mean, she has backstory, just not as much as I wanted.

Overall, better than what critics are saying. if you like a movie that is really an action video game, this is your movie. If you feel remaking Total Recall (and this is a remake with alterations) is total hearsay, don't see this one.

Total side note, i went to my local cinemark and asked for the 11a showing; I was then told that this is a XD experience or some Bullcrap, so the price was $12.50 Far as I could tell, it was the same darn experience, aside from nice leather chairs. Argh, Cinemark and their crazy prices

2nd side note, surprised to see the three breasted hooker back in all her glory, considering its PG13, but Quaid in this one looks only. No touching by a cabbie

Hellboy 2 and Pans labyrinth had amazing practical effects. it was a beautiful mix between practical suits and CGI,
I think a mx of both is really ideal,
Independence Day was another movie that looked really nice before, I know CGI is the future but some things look godawful in CGI. like, really really bad,

on the other hand, the CGI on the new Thing movie and the wolfman remake was awful,

:goodpost: Love the practical stuff used on hellboy, the dvd extras are one of the best I've seen for showing all the workings of them. Great movies are ones that use a bit of everything blended together.

XD is like their version of IMAX, although they don't do anything to the film, it's just a larger screen with better projectors/sound. The one in Plano also has the Dolby Atmos, for the films that use that, where the speakers are all around the theater.

I went to the one in Frisco, Tx, and the screen was decent size, but certainly not any larger than others....sound was good, but Imax (for the same price) blows their XD experience away

Totally agree.

Like you said, the first 30 minutes were great. I absolutely loved the futuristic atmosphere, the city designs, etc. I lost more and more interest as all of the action and "seriousness" came into play.

I would have loved to just watch a full movie of him living his normal life in that time.

I really liked the score, also.

Glad I am not alone with that feeling. When Beckinsale was making her comment, 'you'd think a girl like me would live here with you in this dump' I was thinking, "_____, what'd you calling a dump" I'd love a pad that cool with that kinda view....lol

Saw this today. This movie moves pretty quick but it's fun. It was what I expected and I had a good time with it. I'll get it on blu for good popcorn fun.

Good to hear. I'll probably go and see this when it's released here. Never a big fan of the first.
