A friend of my has a show starting up on Sunday night on the Travel channel. It's not a regular thing yet, but he's hoping it gets some traction. It's called 'Toy Hunter', and word is a Sideshow item or two might be popping up on this first episode. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but I'm interested to see how it turns out. Hell, it can't be worse than 90% of the goofy, silly 'reality' shows on cable these days. The ad copy says...

"Follow Toy and Collectibles dealer Jordan Hembrough and his team as they travel the country searching out the rarest and most sought after toys and pop culture collectibles! Join Jordan as he meets incredible people and learns about the history of some of the most popular toy lines in the past 30 years. He's out to uncover the Holy Grails of the collecting community... and time is running out!

Travel with Hembrough and his Hollywood Heroes as they journey to New York Comic Con, gathering rare and never before seen toys along the way. Comic Con is the "Super Bowl" of toy wheeling and dealing, gathering thousands of people each year. It's the event where the biggest comic and toy collectors turn out to spend BIG money on the rarest toys!

Can Jordan "seal the deal" and turn his new found treasures into Toy Gold?! Tune in Jan 15th and find out! Check your local listings.

These may be toys... but this aint child's play!"

I'm not sure I'd call NYCC the 'super bowl' of collecting, but hey, they have to hype it up. The show is on at 11pm EST on the Travel channel this Sunday.

I ve always wondered why "American Pickers" do nt find more old toys.I saw them pick an old Evel Knievel stunt stadium out of an old store once but that was it.Not counting the Buddy L cars and pedal cars.

I'm in for one episode at least. I have to see how the first one is before I commit to the series. Just about 1/2 hour before the premier!

i don't know much about M.A.S.K toys but i do know they're expensive and i'm pretty sure he really low balled that guy when he offered him $100 for 3 MIB vehicles.

pricing seems very shady on this show

He has low balled everyone he has delt with so far...

ALOT of those toys go for $$$ and those MIB MASK command $$$

I'll give this show one more episode and then I'm out.

First show sucked... Way too phony and staged like the majority of reality programs. They all pretend they are documentaries but are mostly staged for the camera.

$17,000 for a stupid piece plastic....wow,what a waste of money!

Seems staged

Yeah the guy who bought that rocket firing Boba...I could have sworn that was "Punkass" from the Tapout crew. I recognize the grenade tattoo on his hand and the "TO" on his neck. He acted like he was a nobody...$17,000 was probably chump change for him.

Its funny cause I thought he was lowballing alot of guys as well especially those Mask vehicles. That was MIB.

So far pretty intersting but I can see alot of guys hating this dude, lol.

Maybe I'm not familiar enough with the retail side of things (especially vintage toys), but how can these CS owners and ex-employees stomach the prices Jordan's offering right after he tells them the figures are worth two times more?
Case in point:
"This rocket-firing Boba Fett can sell for $10K. I'll pay you $5K for it."

I get that this guy's playing broker and the goal is for everyone involved to make a buck, but after actually going to conventions like SDCC and seeing the crazy prices some vendors ask, this only increases my dislike for them because I now know what goes on in the background.
This show's entertaining because of the toys, but the over-arching idea behind it is is somewhat off-putting. Then again, there arguably isn't too much artistic value to pieces like the RFBF. The money and nostalgia seem to be the only things that factor in.

Bring on a Sideshow (or Sideshow-distributed company) episode. I'm curious as to how they'd handle it.

That, too. I wouldn't say it sucked, but I couldn't tell whether I liked or hated it. Just some conflicting emotion in there (for the reasons I listed above). Kind of an odd vibe.
