The only cartoon version of Transformers I've seen is the first (or only) movie...the one with Unicron. But that was years ago so maybe Hot Rod really is lame.

I just remember him being my favorite as a kid...probably because he was the main character.

I think that would be a HUGE mistake. His initial story may have ended with the first trilogy but to reboot without him? NO Optimus = FAIL!

Tbh no transformer got a substantial story in any of the three films, just cgi **** smashing into other. I want someone to craft a fantastic mythos and backstory of cybertron in the movieverse but we'll likely never get that in a mainstream blockbuster

As far as new character goes,there are alot to pick from.But it would be damn cool to see them bring it up a notch with the Dinobots,Omega Supreme and the Combaticons.

Transformers 4 to Feature a Female Lead?

Although details are decidedly few, Spoiler TV is reporting that Michael Bay's Transformers 4 could feature a female protagonist. According to the site, a search is now underway for an actress to play the leading role of a high school senior. Also being cast, they say, is the character's boyfriend, a Texan racecar driver.

Bay recently spoke about the project, now in development for a June 27, 2014 release, suggesting that this is likely the final Transformers adventure with him at the helm. Ehren Kruger is providing the screenplay which is rumored to take the storyline into outer space with a brand new cast of both humans and robots.

Bay's next project, Pain & Gain is a bit more down to earth, starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson as a pair of bodybuilders who, in a true story, take to a life of crime. That film is scheduled for release on April 26, 2013.

He's busy with Bay's other flick, Pain and Gain.

But I think that finished a while ago.

Anyway, Prime or no Prime, it's not going to be 'good' anyway. So bring on splosions.
