Why can't it gross 300 million US wordwide? Or like most Americans, they think the extent of the world is the country they live within. ;)
Honestly, who gives an ass crack about anything outside the US?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm sure it will do very very well, but POTC and SM3 had something Transformers didn't.... an already established storyline and fanbase. Regardless of how good it looks, people are cynical and judgemental and will go with what they know over what they don't.

Who knows though... if it's really a great film, people will be sure to go again and again... bringing up the gross as they do so....

...where Transformers has an old school fan base, but how many outside that box will go? No doubt it'll rock the box office but I dunno about owning it.

Don't plan on too many of those "old school" TF fans out there going to see this. I'd say just by reading all the reactions about the movie on all the TF boards I belong to, about 85% to 90% of them hate this movie already. You can include me in that group as well. :monkey3

I just can't get over how awful the robots look. :monkey2 Most of the toys look better than their CGI counterparts. That's insane.

The producers tried to please some "old school" TF fans by getting Peter Cullen to voice Prime which is awesome but it's a half-assed attempt since they didn't go all the way and get Frank Welker to do Megatron. That's like buying a gun but not buying any bullets for it. Why even bother???

I love Transformers but I hope this movie tanks, although I know it won't, just so that I don't have to suffer through any sequels.

I find it pathetic that the transformers fans are complaining about much how
the robots look in the movie.I think they are going realistic and if they copied what we saw in the cartoons as kids, it actually would be gay.I see why they went the way they did and I think it looks great. The Alts modes are there, just the robots are different from their cartoons.I grew up on transformers, had all the toys, does it bother me that the characters are not designed like the cartoons? NO! It just seems that everyone expects perfect Movies and your never gonna get it! Be happy they are making these movies and making Marvel films.Who would of thought this stuff would even make film.Enjoy the fun of the movie and stop crying! Its not gonna tank like you say

TRANSFORMERS, the summer box office king?!! Give me a *****KIN' break! SPIDER-MAN 3, POTC 3, and SHREK 3 will all finish ahead of it! :monkey1

While Bonehead was right about the 80 percent not being pleased with the Transformers character design, that was also in 2006. General opinion in the fandom has changed. This is 2007, and with the new trailers we have been seeing, Transfans for the majority seem to have hopped the fence on this one and are actually appreciating it for what it is. You know most of the Transformers crowd will see this. I belong to some TF communities and from what I have seen, the majority are really pumped up about the latest trailers and think the designs translate nicely into a live-action motion world.

Also, fans outside of the fandom, as many on these forum have expressed nothing but positive interest in this film. Although, everyone seems to go along with the trailers possessing the whole "WOW factor", with the hope that this doesn't get botched up by Michael Bay and company, because of lack luster efforts in the final product of both Armageddon and the over done romance arc and off beat historical inaccuracies of Pearl Harbor. I guess what I'm trying to say, and the majority concerns seem to be with Mr. Bay, will we be getting another two hour long MTV music video from him? As a lot of us know he started out as a music video director, which his focus then turned primarily shooting feature films.

Bonehead, I have to agree with teemu on this one. The G1 character designs from the cartoon, while in animated form look great, wouldn't be properly executed in the real live action world of film.

These alien robots were meant to be as realistic in design as their earth bound alt forms.

In the end, this discussion was more about how the movie would finish in box office sales. So far with the significant positive attention this has been getting from the general public, I have to say this movie, while it may not finish No. 1 in box office sales in 2007, should still bring in well over 300 million US. I can definitely see it being top 3. Also, to the person who said that they hope this film bombs so they don't have to suffer the sequels to follow the original... too late! They already have the actors signed on for later additions and they have alrady begun writing the script for the second film of what looks to be a big franchise.

Wow! So if someone doesn't agree with you then they are crying?

I don't want G1 character designs I want GOOD designs. Something closer to the Cyberton series bots would have been much better and more realistic. Why not Binatech or Masterpiece designs?

Are you saying that a CGI MP Starscream would look like crap? :google

Which board is that? I'd like to actually read something positive about this movie from some diehard TF fans.

I'll admit the trailers look good but the actual Transformers still look like bad.

I FULLY understand where you are coming from.

Its so hard to see something you grew up with and idealized as a kid, brought to the big screen in a barley recognizable form.

BUT, its still Transformers! Its still Optimus Prime! And I will see it no matter what!

Its Transformers,period!

Although I think they could have made prime look like this and it wtill would have rocked!!!

The arms on that Prime look like sheeeyat! Great rendering job though! Whoever made him did a excellent job of combining the look of the G1 Optimus Prime toy and added realistic modern elements to it. Just got to ask this, but what's up with the half assing? This isn't a naked Ultra Magnus without armour here. This is supposed to be of Optimus "FREAKING" Prime, so where is the famous red and blue paint scheme?

Also, have you seen the 30 second transforming clip of this? It's amazing! It was shown over a year, even fooling some fellow Transfans into believing these were test shots of Optimus in the movie. However, I have to say I prefer the look of Michael Bay's Prime much more for the big screen. He looks so good in motion. Much more bad ass. His design has really grown on me.

The whole reason we initially hated the character designs at first, was because they were so different from anything we have seen from past series. Albeit, those series were based on the toys. Problem is these guys are not based on toys, but more-so made to be believable in the real world and alien like, since they are extraterrestrial machines, which these live-action counterparts emphasize to a tee.

Like I said, what works in animation and in comics doesn't necessarily work well in the real world. Take the Simpsons for example. You know it would suck hardcore ass if they did a live action version of it ala Flinstones style. You know, the one with John Goodman. Yes, that one.
