Still in progress....

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I can not wait to get my headsculpts...I look forward to seeing everyone's customs once they are put together. Most of you should have your Mal Coats in hand already from the first wave of orders.
To answer a couple of questions that came up about wave two preorders for the Mal Coat...Preorders will open up again February 1st at 12:00 midnight and I will be doing a limit of 10-12 coats and Zoe vests. I know I have promised a lot of you pics by now but they WILL be available for preorder as well on the 1st.
If anyone has any other questions, please let me know.
Thank you again and let's see those coats.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey all,

I have to update you guys with some news on the Firefly stuff. The casting run will probably have to be truncated, I'm afraid.

Without getting into details that are difficult to explain, I've made three rubber molds of my Mal sculpture that haven't worked out. I have ONE good mold to make castings from, (for Mal) and I know that it will begin wearing down in the coming weeks.

The sculpt was pretty badly damaged from my last failed molding, so my only option now is to make a new mold from a clean casting. I'm willing to do this, but the casts could look slightly different. I'll need to experiment first to see if they're even worth offering. When you're dealing with likenesses, even the slightest shrinkage can alter the look of a portrait.

I wanted to post this as soon as I could just to WARN anyone who is spending money on their custom figures. It's very possible that I won't be able to get to you on the list. It's very difficult to do a large run of castings from rubber molds, and I'm CERTAINLY a novice.

I hate to write this, and I am very sorry if it turns out I can't get everyone castings. I've certainly tried my best, in what little free time I have, to get quality molds to produce the volume I need...but I always feared this might be how things would turn out.

If you're angry at me, I certainly understand! Yet another custom project that hasn't paned out. This, of course, is why I was NOT accepting money prior to castings being ready to ship.

I'll keep casting until my molds wear down, but I've already pushed them pretty far. Again, very sorry for getting hopes up and crashing them down. There are a lot of variables that I can't control, unfortunately.

Thanks for reading this. I will keep everyone posted if I'm able to make a good rubber mold from a casting. Sorry for the potentially bad news, guys.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey Trevor, sorry to hear this has been stressing you. Your fine work speaks for itself whether I get to own this piece of it or not. All the best.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Well, hey, at least for whatever doesn't work out you didn't take money beforehand so no one's getting jipped.

Hopefully a new mold won't change the casting too much. But thanks for trying to work it out.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thank you very much, guys!

I'm sorry for the gloom and doom! I'll still try my best to get as many castings out as I can.

All hope may not be lost if I can properly mold one of the castings and it still looks good! I just wanted to be honest about the state of things so that nobody would pour too much money into the project, only to find they can't get get heads!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

In addition to being incredibly talented, you're a class act Trev.

Most everyone who's offered castings, from Andy B. on down, had to call it quits at some point due to molds and time constraints. Better to truncate than dip in quality, imo.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Yes indeed, Entropy. I will never offer anything that isn't of a quality that passes my critical eye.

If I'm able to get a good new mold of Mal, I'll post photos of the castings so everyone can judge whether they still want them. Jayne and Zoe haven't given me as much trouble, so as of right now, they're still fine.

more to follow in the coming weeks! thanks for understanding guys,
Trev

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thanks for the honest update Trevor... problems happen, its not your fault and if I can get a cast (either generation) I'll be a happy camper.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I hold out hope I can still get the Mal head...!! I've already put about $70 into the rest of the custom between the body, the jacket and the rest of it... I do appreciate the honest update Trevor. I just wish I was a little further down the list. :(

edit: Make that $100. I forgot that I ordered the rig from Stevo right after Christmas.

Thanks for letting us know, Trev - hope things work out! I'd still like to be in for whatever you're able to produce; even a drop in quality is better than nothing, IMO.

(Just want to make sure you got me on the list too.)

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thanks for the update Trev. Since I was one of the latest people added to the list, I doubt I'll get one, but thanks for being honest and not making excuses or anything.

I haven't spent quite as much yet, but I still spent a pretty penny on it. I'm obviously not pissed at Trev, but I hope I can somehow get my hands on one. A good Mal fig is a grail for me.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

WOW, those molds look amazing! Love the Zoe one.

Bummer to hear that you ran into some troubles. Hope you can solve them.

I'm in no way mad at Trevor either. It's still not certain whether this is the end for the Mal sculpts or not. I just got excited and jumped the gun (maybe) in getting the bash together and put some $$ into it is all. Mal's a grail for me too! Especially with a sculpt THAT good. I still have my fingers crossed. :monkey2

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I certainly won't give up on you guys! I would imagine there will be a solution to the problem, I just need a little time to experiment. Thank you ALL for being understanding.
