Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts
Hey all,
I have to update you guys with some news on the Firefly stuff. The casting run will probably have to be truncated, I'm afraid.
Without getting into details that are difficult to explain, I've made three rubber molds of my Mal sculpture that haven't worked out. I have ONE good mold to make castings from, (for Mal) and I know that it will begin wearing down in the coming weeks.
The sculpt was pretty badly damaged from my last failed molding, so my only option now is to make a new mold from a clean casting. I'm willing to do this, but the casts could look slightly different. I'll need to experiment first to see if they're even worth offering. When you're dealing with likenesses, even the slightest shrinkage can alter the look of a portrait.
I wanted to post this as soon as I could just to WARN anyone who is spending money on their custom figures. It's very possible that I won't be able to get to you on the list. It's very difficult to do a large run of castings from rubber molds, and I'm CERTAINLY a novice.
I hate to write this, and I am very sorry if it turns out I can't get everyone castings. I've certainly tried my best, in what little free time I have, to get quality molds to produce the volume I need...but I always feared this might be how things would turn out.
If you're angry at me, I certainly understand! Yet another custom project that hasn't paned out. This, of course, is why I was NOT accepting money prior to castings being ready to ship.
I'll keep casting until my molds wear down, but I've already pushed them pretty far. Again, very sorry for getting hopes up and crashing them down. There are a lot of variables that I can't control, unfortunately.
Thanks for reading this. I will keep everyone posted if I'm able to make a good rubber mold from a casting. Sorry for the potentially bad news, guys.
