Ew...make his weirdness stop.

clutronlegacy.jpg

it looks like it came from a shrek movie. :lol

I mean, I think the CGI CLU was pretty terrible, but It never bothered me in the movie. It should've...but I just bought that he looked different because of something to do with the computer world. There were only a few shots that took me out of the movie...that was one of 'em.

But I still liked the character, and the movie as a whole.

clu's weak CGI was kinda noticeable at kevin flynn's pad with that white background, reminded me of prince charming at one point.haha

didnt bother me much though. :]

I thought CLU was awesome. I loved the fact that Flynn created a version of himself when he went in the first time.

Like I said, I loved the character, I thought he was a great villian. Just looked a little fakey. :D

uhhhm...
shouldnt it be clu 2 instead? i thought clu got owned in the first movie during the hack.haha

I think Clu looked the best in these scenes:

BTW, I just bought the Art of Tron book, and seems like indeed Digital Domain, the same guys from Benjamin Button did the effects for Tron, as to why the result is a bit weird in some scenes, I have no CLU...
:lol!

saw the movie today loved it

jeff bridges fights jeff bridges on a bridge AWESOME !!!!!!!

I effing loved this movie. I'm going to see it again tomorrow.

I picked up the Deluxe Sam Flynn figure, it's not really that great, I just loved the movie so much I had to have it. I wish it had an actual sculpt though rather than image projection.I hope to pick up the Ultimate Sam Flynn figure, and hope that Deluxe series 2 will be better.

Recently beat Tron Evolution. Loved it, but it's for sure not for everyone.

I enjoyed TRON Legacy! I finally got to see it last weekend in 3-D. :yess:

I was a HUGE fan of the first TRON going in, and I loved all of the "nods" to the original movie. I only wish that Cindy Morgan (she was "Yori" in TRON) came back as Allen Bradley's wife. I know in some comics that they got married, and had a son they named Jett Bradley. He was the one that went back into the grid world inside the computer in the comics a while back. I think it would have been cool for the sons of Allen Bradley and Kevin Flynn to battle Clu and his troops together in Tron Legacy.

The lightcycle battle, and all of the other scenes in the grid in 3-D were incredible! I highly recommend seeing TRON Legacy in 3-D. I wanted to see it in IMAX 3-D, but haven't got the chance to see it that way...yet.

Okay...finally got a chance to go see this today, so I can offer my two cents on the whole thing, instead of just 10 minutes in the middle of it like I did before...

I liked it.

It had a few issues, but for the most part, was a pretty entertaining movie.

What I really liked:
  • The music. Daft Punk's accolades here are very well-deserved. It 's sonically connected to the original Carlos score (and a lot of that '80s electronic flavor from back then) while still sounding new and exciting. It's a great stand-alone listen too...Well done, indeed!
  • Re-visiting/updating original action sequences, like the disc duels and the light cycles. It's taken to the next level and the action stays coherent and well-choreographed. From the multi-level intensity of the disc duels to the liquid-like flow and spills of the light cycles....it's all given a modern spin that keeps it grounded in what came before and making it look fresh and exciting. Makes one want to see it again, always a good thing...
  • The darker edge and intensity to the whole thing, from the look to the "de-rezzing" to the action...gone was any sense of "gee-whiz" and considering the thrust of the story, that was a great choice...

There was more, but those were just the highlights for me.

The not-so-successful for me:
  • The over-cribbing from other genre movies...there were a lot of instances in this that had me thinking "Hmmmm, we saw that done in (fill in the blank)". Now a little occasional homage is fine, but it's becoming more and more apparent these days that this young breed of filmmakers are really weened on movies and television and that's where a great deal of their inspiration comes from. Now that's not a bad thing, unless it becomes too obvious and starts erasing any attempt at presenting something original. That doesn't totally happen here, but there were a few too many instances of "been there, done that" going on here.
  • Watching Jeff Bridges carry this movie from start to finish...really good job.
  • a fairly large plot hole (I'll mention in invso-text below) and a character-change that seemed awfully abrupt...now, that plot hole: (highlight to read: How was it that Quora could end up in the "real world"? That just seemed like a quick contrivance to provide that Disney-mandated "happy ending"...and what was with Tron's sudden change of allegiance in the midst of that aerial battle? It just kinda happened... Now perhaps some folks have dissected this thing or interpreted in a way that answers that earlier in the thread...I'm interested in hearing what that is...

Now, none of that stopped me from enjoying this and I'll probably try and catch it again before it leaves. I freely admit I jumped the gun here with my earleir remarks... It as a fun flick...

Great review jedibear! Much more detailed that mine. I agree with most everything you said. I wish that Bruce Boxleitner had MORE to do in the movie. Jeff Bridges did carry the movie for the most part. I didn't mind since I'm such a HUGE fan of his. :)
