Okay yeah I could definitely see that happening. That would be an awesome turn of events.

At this point, I'm convinced Ani's dad Eliot is the guy that's running things through his hippy church.

Mofo killed the world, remember . . .

I wish that I had Jesse's girl:

Farrell's doing some very good work here . . . Ep. 5 being a real high water mark for any carbon-based actor.
Coiled menace and self-loathing colliding into bleak epiphany.

Hard to believe there's only three hours left in this tale . . . but I had the same thought last season.

Blake is the most likely rapist of Ray's wife(ginger).

He's not. The police already caught the real rapist. He was arrested for another rape (or multiple rapes). When they ran his DNA through the system it flagged the rape kit Velcoro's wife took after her attack. That's why he was all freaked out when that black lady told him, because he realized he killed an innocent man (who Vince Vaughn's character said was the guy).

Yea, but that could also be bs since a few of the cops are dirty and Blake is part of the organisation blackmailing people.

What I mean is, Frank showed back up to the Catalyst guy for the first time in like 6 months or w/e it was, trying to still get a piece of the action, and right after that, they break the bad news to Ray. Feels like a set up to me.

Not that wacky coincidences aren't bound to occur on almost any fictionalized show, but the timing is a bit suspicious. Having said that, Frank is a character who seems just as likely to set up a guy like Velcoro (for the purpose of putting him in his pocket essentially) as not to. And the Catalyst guy shouldn't want Frank dead until he can retrieve the hard drive. I'm not even totally sure if Catalyst meeting happened before or after the scene between Velcoro and his ex-wife (which of course happens after his ex-wife hears the news about the real rapist being imprisoned).

In the hopes that Velcoro would kill Vaughn maybe?

Exactly. They are trying to comfortably nudge Frank away by taking his money and preventing him getting involved. He just keeps coming back and Pitlor mentioned that they do have dirt on that Catalyst guy. So the hard drive shouldn't matter to him. And his coy smile when he asks Frank if he really thinks it was the Mexicans even gave Frank pause. Frank has no idea what he's into. He calls and says Franks back, Blake sees a chance to get rid of Frank and in a similar manner to how Frank alienated Ray to begin with. And it happened afterwards. Ray went straight from hearing that news to Frank's where he's in bed. "Shut the **** Up! I'm coming!" :lol

Unless the Catalyst rep has already neutralized the hard drive evidence and is just stringing Frank along.
(It would be cheaper to whack him than gift him primo parcels of land, and several of Frank's associates are already taking dirt naps.)
The levels of manipulation occurring are multiple . . . and (like last season) reach quite high in the food chain.

Frank has no idea what he's into.

:exactly:

Despite his menace and swagger, Frank is being revealed to be a fairly small-time gangster whose reach exceeds his grasp.
He's moving into currents out of his depth--witness his Cisco Kid visitors. (Best line: "Go stand in front of a freaking tank.")

He reminds me of another Frank from film who had lofty aspirations that exceeded his ability: Fonda's Frank from Once Upon A Time In the West.
Both are murderous, treacherous gang leaders who have dreams of empire but--ultimately--are just small fish in a big ocean ruled by sharks.
Frank Semyon's gonna find out he's not a businessman after all . . .

I like the analogy to Fonda's Frank and yes one of the greatest movies ever period.:lecture You can bet that the visit from Cisco Kid as he called him, was not good. Considering that he just might have pissed off a drug cartel.

Ya I thought they were going to show up and fill frank and his wife full of holes

There was a brief period where I thought Frank was playing dumb and playing everyone, maybe even running **** for real, but now it's clear he's just in way over his head and I kinda like it even more since I think it's going to end in him getting back involved with Ray for some revenge. Also, his little metaphors turning into internet memes have probably been the funnest part of the season so far.

Good writing has a tendency to do so.

It pollinates like a flower . . . Or replicates like a virus.

(BTW Deckard -- thanks for the reddit link earlier in this thread. Mighty nice of you.)

Hi all, also a huge fan of this series, been following the thread since season 2 started, and I think for them going from a full stop/total reboot, and into eps. 4 & 5 they went to a full boil. I am very into Frank & Woodrugh's characters, and how well they introduced everyone, and how it has expanded so quickly. That is hard to do in a good way....I think of SOA for example. They all have demons and the memes have been great. I think the cult /arterial blood splatter, and lot of other things will lead to an interesting finale..and Dixon was def up to something, he was photographing Woodrugh at the bar in eps. 3 I think, the pawn/jewelry stuff, and the set up at the shoot out....maybe him getting shot wasn't an accident? I thought that scene was damn good, and have watched it several times. Ani's character was also zig-zagging/duck covering for most of the chase if you watch it again, she wasn't blindly running a str8 line the whole time. Overall I am really liking the scope/development of it.

If Vaughn was given a Joker makeover he would look a lot like the new SS PF Joker IMO. He is playing the villain much better than I too expected.

I knew it wasn't that guy they arrested. No way he's the rapist. My money's still on Blake.

Yup, you were right.

Couple things:

The man that apparently molested Ani as a child was the same unknown guy in the photo her dad has of Chessani, Caspere and Caspere's psychiatrist Dr. Pitlor.

I think the killer is actually killers: the two kids from that jewelry store robbery/murders. I also think that missing girl (Vera) is the daughter from that incident. That's how she figures into it all. She worked at the retreat run by Ani's dad before she came up "missing". So that's my pick. Brother and sister (or at least one of them) are the ones responsible for Caspere and Stan's death. I think Vince Vaughn was responsible for the jewelry store robbery/murders and that's how Caspere got those blue diamonds; Vaughn gave them to him + cash to secure land in that shady transportation deal. And that's why Vera had pics of the diamonds + the sex parties; she (and her brother) have been investigating and tracking down the people responsible for their parents murders.

I thought the guy in the red trunks with the long hair was Ani's dad.

The guy in the back, with the hat, looks to have very short hair, and no beard.

I'm very curious who is the woman that got tortured at the cabin. It's not either of the women that it obviously had to be. Is it possible the flashback of the molestation was her father?
