Twilight-crazy fangirls (and fan...boys) are lining up as we speak:

One of the most anticipated films of the Holiday movie season, Twilight, opens up this Friday, and the fanatics are already beginning to line up for the premiere on Tuesday. A crowd of about 300 has gathered outside of Mann’s Village Theatre, hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars as they head into the premiere. One of the signs outside even reads “Not moving until Twilight“. Similar crowds braved the elements in downtown Toronto, San Fransisco and Chicago for meets and greets with the stars. Chaos ensued when the event in San Francisco only had enough bracelets for 1000 (3000 showed up).

With the hype that this film is bringing comes wild uncertainty at the Box Office. Will these large crowds translate into box office gold? Predictions for the opening weekend range from $35-60 Million (Personally, I think it will do better than that, somewhere in the 70+ Million range). The stars are starting to align for the movie well in advance, with MovieTickets.com reporting that 389 shows are already sold out as of 12 pm today, with 140 of those happening in the past weekend alone. (85% of the movie ticketing site’s sales have been for Twilight) It’s already hit #20 on the list for the most pre-sales for a movie ever, and that number will only continue to grow.

The numbers are staggering in terms of what anticipation for this film has brought. The official website has recorded over 11 million views since October, the trailer has been viewed over 12 million times on Myspace. Even the stars of the film, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Steward, are ranking high on the Star Meter over at IMDB, higher than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie respectively. The servers at MTV.com crashed when the initial casting photos were released… that’s just incredible.

Entertainment Weekly is releasing an additional cover featuring the film, a rare occurrence, as the first cover was the best selling one for the magazine so far this year.

I was just going to post abotu the San Francisco incident. A friend of mine who goes to SF State, which is by there, said that cops were flying by to get there because girls were getting trampled. They canceled the whole thing in SF and apparently the mall was nuts for the rest of the day.

If this thing can live up to half the hype it'll be a tough one to beat at the Box Office. This has Titanic Effect written all over it.

The only reason I see that happening is if guys would just give it a chance. I keep reading comments about how it is gay and lame but most people that say that never evem picked a book up. :dunno

Not really. Titanic had an appeal to grownups as well. It also had the intrigue of a historical tragedy. This will do well, but I don't think it'll do as well as say a Harry Potter.

It would figure that something like this could come out of left field and overtake the numbers TDK put up this year. I hope that doesn't happen.

I highly doubt that could happen with a property that most adults have never even heard of. This thing may be hyped in certain circles but many, including myself, have never heard of this novel or movie. I can personally say I've never seen a moving image of this film on TV or in the theaters and have seen more from Badmoon himself than any media.

This has a huge following in the adult realm as well. All of my wife's friends have read it and are gushing to see it. Her sister, her friends all in their 20s and all avid fans. There are 8th Grade girls in my class with Twilight in their planners written in on Friday. Some even have their tickets for multiple viewings this weekend with them.

I never read a Harry Potter book before watching SS. The first book I read was Half-Blood Prince only because I wanted to know what happened after Order of the Phoenix and I love that franchise.

If TWILIGHT is good I'll be the first to post here that I enjoyed it despite what anyone says....

My sister (who is 19) is seeing this flick more than twice (with her girlfriends), so she tells me.

I don't get it.

That may be true. But when I came into the office after I read the first book you wouldn't believe the amount of heads that popped out of cubicles to say you read that too! I love those books. I think they are a guilty pleasure and the adults that read them are to embarrased to own up to it.

I for one don't care what the hell people think. :lol

It really just looks like a cheese-fest to me. I hope its good and I can believe the books are good (I fought Potter and found out I was wrong) but the trailers just looks so weak that its hard to have any interest.

You know it'll go Number One this week. Whether it has the staying power is the other story. What else is coming out next that could derail it? They are already starting Pre Production on number two and three....

While it may have a large adult following, I can gaurantee it's nowhere near the tweenie following, and cut that down even lower to the female following and it's a niche market with limited appeal. Titanic legs came from this market, but it was it's mass appeal to all ages and sexes that made it the success it was. Like I said this movie will do pretty good considering it's budget but it's also opening against a one week old Bond film, a two week old family film in Madagascar 2, and alongside a new family film from Disney called Bolt, so it's definitely not going to break any records, and doesn't have the same mass appeal as a Titanic to keep it's legs going that long.

Oh, I'm definately not bashing you Badmoon. It just makes me feel old to not know the current hip thing.

I've actually read every book by Anne Rice and some of them a few times. I can't ever read/watch another vampire after being so deep in her universe.

the books really arent good though. they really are badly written. its full of cheesy dialogue and constant cliches. its just because it happens to be a romance novel that uses a fantasy approach that its gotten so big. teen girls gobble this stuff right up. i tried reading it to see what the big deal was and couldnt stop groaning after every little thing they characters said, so i finally just had to put it down.

Sorry Badmoon I will pass on this one and thankfully my wife hasnt been paying attention to it or she would be wanting to drag me to it.

Oh I didn't think you were! I am used to getting it for liking the series though. I loved the Anne Rice books. If I had to compare these books I wouldn't even hold it near Buffy. Buffy to me is silly and tries to be funny. These books are more serious and dark. I would say a little more of the darker tones of Harry Potter and the Anne Rice books mixed together with younger people.
