To be honest, I think real vampire fans should see "Let the Right One In" instead. I think this movie is much better...

"Let the Right One In" is one of the best movies of the year and easily one of the best vampire movies ever made (if not the best IMO, still can't decide). It caters to an entirely different audience though, and it certainly isn't the "Twilight" mob.

I saw this trailer during a trailer show on HDNET and it looked AWESOME. Don't know what it is about creepy kids, but they are awesome.

I saw the trailer for this 'movie" and i found myself laughing so hard at how cheesy and lame it looks, that my wife had to calm me down...
Sorry... big pass for me,
I'll watch Fright Night instead... :rotfl:rotfl

Well, I'm not really a big fan of the Twilight books, myself. I read them at my daughter's insistence, and because I love vampire stories, and they were good, but not fantastic, if you know what I mean. But I have to say that those of you who are assuming it won't do boffo box office numbers must be living in caves somewhere.

For example, take the Titanic comparison. To some degree, Titanic may have had more adult appeal than Twilight, but that appeal probably only resulted in $75-100 million out of that film's $600 million domestic haul. The rest came from teenage girls, going back to see it ten times or more. I know, because my daughter was one of them. And I paid for most of those tickets.

Will Twilight have the legs that Titanic had? Only time will tell. But it does have that potential, more than any other film in the last ten years besides The Dark Knight has had.

What I do know is that it will be HUGE. Based on all of the reports I've heard, the number of midnight shows alone will be enough to generate about $25 million, and many theaters are reporting than many of the shows for the weekend are already pre-sold out. I'll be very surprised if the film does less than $80 million this weekend.

It's no cheesier than Leonardo DiCrapio shouting "I'm the king of the world!!!" :D

And I really think that comparing the movie to what you think makes a good vampire film is missing the point. It's not Buffy. It's not Anne Rice. It is its own universe. Whether it appeals to us matters not. It does appeal to millions of young women (and a surprising number of older women, as well).

I personally know of many girls (just among the daughters of my friends and neighbors) who have already read the entire series of books five or six times. You really think they won't be seeing this thing over and over? Heck, I've read about some fan groups who have planned to see the movie three times THIS WEEKEND.

Laugh it up, fuzzball! ;)

I never said I was right, or that I guaranteed any particular number. I'm just going by what I've read, heard, and seen. I'll be the first to admit if I'm wrong. But after this post, I'll also be the first to rub your nose in it if I'm right. ;)

The game is on. Who'll be rubbing who in the poo? Only time will tell. :lol

So....we have to rub each other in poo now? This thread is dirtier than anything in the sandbox! :lol

Don't even compare the two. Please! :monkey1

Really! Buffy is about a million times better than Twilight.

I have read all the books and last one was actually pretty good. But the earlier ones are very teen angsty and very girly.

I was in a Hot Topic this weekend and made a joke with the store guy about all the Twilight merchandise they have - (it was literally HALF the store). Turns out they're having a signing of 4 of the cast members there. So everyone stay away from Hollywood and Highland today. These fans are CRAZY.

Keith and CHUD must hate each other
I am now a CHUD fan!! :rock :lol

Gonna check that out, sounds interesting.

I have NO desire to see this film at all. A friend of my Wife's offered to take us all to see it for FREE and I declined. Honestly, any Vamp movie where the vamps have frosty white skin that "twinkles" in the daylight... um... Daylight??? :google

So the vamps are all models, or at least look like they were dragged out of the A&F catalog. And they can walk in broad daylight... and then the over the top powers, and complete and utter lack of horror... It just makes me cringe.

To me it's just lame to the millionth degree... I don't see the appeal at all. Give me scary vampires, and I am there. Make another great Anne Rice novel into a equally great film... I'm also there. But Twilight?? I'm so NOT there.

I would rather have my balls smothered in lava. :lol
I agree 100% brother! :rock

Vampires walking around during the day + that stupid face :monkey4 + the horrible trailer = LAME!!

Scoot over so I can get some of that Lava on my balls. :lol

My wife had a one word response after seeing the trailer, "Lame". That night we watched a real Vampire movie, Bram Stoker's Dracula.

^^^^ this is depressing. I can't believe im going to this movie....and the midnight showing to boot. this must be God punishing me for giving dave stress.

I was forced to read the first 5 pages by my girlfriend and it seemed really boring to me... and If this is a bigger movie than TDK then I will quit being a batman fan..

Seriously what book isn't boring in the first 5 pages? :lol

Damn you guys crack me up. You can sit here and discuss the differences in belt sizes and pockets and how figures aren't quite groomed right. Yet you call this movie gay and know ^^^^ ^^^^ about it. Kinda speaks volumes if you ask me. :rotfl

He's got a point. I resisted Harry Potter for a while because it was perceived as a children's book. But once I got into it found it clever, fun and heartfelt.

I read Twilight because I felt like I needed to be aware of any pop culture phenomenon. I was really put off having read that the author had never seen Buffy nor watched any vampire movie, including the original Dracula. But some people succeed only because they don't know that they are doomed to fail. And she kind of did that.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, but the situation was compelling enough that I picked up the second. And they do get progressively better as the supernatural world broadens and becomes more complex. Hopefully she won't succumb to the Ann Rice syndrome of trying to be relevant and philosophical.

You are not alone there but I am sure you know that. I think many adults resisted as long as they could. But we all broke down and had to see what it was about. Now many adults love it!

I read that and couldn't believe it. I was like what self respecting vampire fan would read this after finding out she doesn't know anything. But I do like her take on it. Not a fan of the bling bling skin but it still is kinda different.

Yeah the first book had it's moments but it did pick up towards the end. Enough so that it made me want to read all of the other ones.
