While he wore the grey pants and boots with the motocross shirt in promo pics, when we see him wear it in the film he has on different pants (we never see his shoes in that shot). So technically it still wouldn't be screen accurate. ;)

So what pants does he wear with that shirt in the movie? Can't remember and I don't want to pop it in to find out.

thing is, we are all anally retentive, pedantic, insulting in our own way, and we all think we're intellectually superior and more qualified to critique sculpts. ALL OF US. at the same time we also deride posts that do the same thing. i do it, you do it, we ALL do it. that also makes us hypocrites. but that's the nature of the board. it's just the way it is.

if you like rainman's sculpt, just ignore the criticisms. you don't have to go to bat for him everyone time someone makes those comments. for me personally, i see much MUCH more tyler and pitt in daniel's head. but i don't get frustrated every time someone says both heads are equal in quality (that to me feels like an insult to daniel's head), or that daniel's is imperfect.

regarding the praise of flawed sculpts, i can tell you why rainman is a target. the custom section used to be a place for the freaks by the freaks. everyone was just sharing work and occassionally selling that talent, but primarily everyone was a member of the boards. praise was to encourage one of our own. let's not kid ourselves, rainman is a business man first and foremost. he sells EXPENSIVE items, through a "representative", and doesn't participate on the forums. that makes his stuff as open to criticism as say an HT product IMHO. he's not a part of SSF. i am very VERY grateful to him for the GBU figs, but his status here makes him open to that criticism. i'm sure he doesn't even read or know or care what we say about his stuff. especially when it's selling out at $650 or $700 a pop.

rainman made a great figure but i've been waiting for a tyler durden like so many others for years. and when i first saw it, i thought there was no way i was going to buy it. i went with seb instead (because we share a philosophy and passion for the subject matter, which i'm not sure rainman does - how can we know?) and daniel's incredible HS.

it's all opinions dude. and even repetitive "insulting" ones can be ignored. but like i say, we're all guilty of the same crimes.

Still one of the most sensible, literate guys at SSF.

Not true and silly to say everyone behaves in the same manner. Speak for yourself and please don't lump me and others in with your "guilty". I don't tear people's work down or make repetitive snide comments. If you can't say anything nice...

For instance, I don't care for VM's Blondie sculpt, many do and that's cool, but I feel no need to post negative things about it or those that do like it. There's no point.

But you are correct that there are many here who enjoy being trolls and spouting off negativism whenever they can. The world is full of such attention seeking aholes and yes they are best ignored.

I didn't, I don't and I never mentioned Rainman in my post.

I get frustrated when I see anyone target any artist here and continually call their work crap, whether it's Sunohc, Rainman, Serang, Elvis1976, Spenser, Velvet Morning, smallstudios, Figuremaster Les, etc. That is insulting.

Like most here, not all, I treat everyone who shows their work, regardless of talent level, regardless if they are considered a true SSF or not, with respect and feel no need to post how much I don't like something. I think that is the best policy but many in this world sadly do not see things the same way.

Just to play devil's advocate here. I can think of more than one discussion we've had in the Rainmain thread about you calling other peoples ideas "boring" and "not worthy" of a figure, or a "waste of the artist talent." Don't really see that as being any different. It's all a stab at anothers opinion in the end no matter what the topic.

Well the internet has always been known to turn grown men into children through the guise of anonymity... if that's not a case study for inner character I don't know what is...

lets not give attention to those who do not deserve it.

Theres a lot of amazing work and creativity here and enough variations/options to get something for everybody, stuff like likeness is subjective... just buy what you like... be inspired by what you like...

too much bad energy in these forums as of late. Let's just use this forum to celebrate Sunhoc's great head and all the fun stuff people do with it and we can use Rainman's thread to celebrate the fun and great things people do with his stuff. Lets cut the who's better crap out... no one's gonna agree anyway and both are probably miles better than the buffoons who cut them down can do themselves anyway!

Come on! No one on this earth is a Saint to not even have at the least negative thoughts about anything. I don't think it's guilt. He's just being honest and not trying to be a hypocrite or self righteous person. We all have our dark side: envy, bitterness, negativity, ego, etc., etc. To recognize that, leads to the path of change and becoming a better person (better, not perfect, not a saint).

Oh lord. I said I found 1/6 men in suits to be boring displays and those costumes to be fairly boring and straight forward than other characters with more elaborate and unique costumes. But NEVER have I said that an individual's work looks like garbage or a Ken doll or that it's a stupid custom to make or any such thing.

You wanted Rainman to make a Daniel Plainview figure and that's cool that you dig him. I find the character in the film to be interesting but as a 1/6 figure I find the costume design to be plain and uninteresting and suggested a more visually dynamic selection. If you interpret that as a personal insult and 'stab' at your opinion... well, then there's nothing to say I suppose. :huh

So how is saying someone elses opinion of what they want made as a figure is boring and not worthy any different of someone saying that one Tyler is better than the other or even that one is crap? Is it not all a matter of opinions?

you guys should stop the fighting and admire the beautiful sculpt of tyler Durden by SunHoc who has created the greatest Tyler likeness of all customizers.Bow down other amateur sculptors.

What are you talking about??

Of course people have plenty of negative thoughts but what purpose does it serve to post over and over again how much you don't like someone's work especially with hyperbole and mocking? Or how you were told you "ruined" Daniel's sculpt with your paint job?
How is that constructive? Wouldn't "I like it but I think the eyes could use more work" or some such be better?

There's nothing wrong with saying "I don't see the likeness" or "the sculpt needs some polish". For instance, I said I don't care for VM's Blondie sculpt. I said it once and didn't drone on and on in many posts about how terrible it is or how inferior it is to another or anything like that. Such behavior is what I object to.

Did I ever say your idea was crap? Did I ever say it was unworthy to be made as a figure? Did I make fun of you for your idea? No. I simply disagreed about it being an exciting, dynamic design and if Rainman should make it next. And to disagree about something subjective as which sculpt you prefer is perfectly natural. But to go on and on about it (like this discussion) and resort to hyperbole, exaggeration and calling someone's hard work garbage is the difference.

And I'm not pissy or fighting either. Just trying to explain my stance. Damn internetz with no inflection. :)

EDIT: But let's get back on track. Sunohc's sculpt is quite nice and I'm very glad he offered castings. :duff

You said it was boring and not worth his talent. Which is promoting one opinion over anothers, which is all I'm getting at here. It's all the same thing IMO. It's all good in the end. I never took offense, and sure you didn't, but where would we be without discussion. Cheers.

Aw man, that's not what I meant... Of course it's not right to
post over and over again that you don't like someone's work (alla Shai). What I'm trying to say is that I agree with this part of eightsamurai's post, that you expressed disagreement with:

"thing is, we are all anally retentive, pedantic, insulting in our own way, and we all think we're intellectually superior and more qualified to critique sculpts. ALL OF US. at the same time we also deride posts that do the same thing. i do it, you do it, we ALL do it. that also makes us hypocrites. but that's the nature of the board. it's just the way it is."

You seem to have excluded yourself from the above group.

Oh, and I love chicken too.;)

:lecture

I see no difference in someone bluntly saying 'This is the best sculpt in the world, best likeness, beats everyone' compared to some one with another opinion who is basically saying the same thing wrapped in a neat and tidy, long winded, elitist explanation 'my opinion is fact, good sir' BS. Same thing.
