He was in Matts guard. You cant just pass the guard by clicking your fingers...it takes work and strategy...and time!!!
The ref didnt even give them any time at all to do anything - he just stood them up.
Might as well have been a muay thai fight.

I understand that, but this isn't a JJ match, the refs wanna see fighters do some GnP. Your not gonna pass a guys closed guard in that situation unless he starts hitting him in the face or Meathead decides to try some offense off his back.

I think meathead could take a guy like Carwin out, but a fight like that is a ways off.

Exactly. The ref didnt allow time for any of that though.
