I weigh 235 lbs and would like to trim down to at least 210 by the summertime. It's hard burning the fat without burning some muscle here and there. I could never get below 180 lbs or else I'll start to look sick, it's just impossible for me.

Hey Astro, losing muscle will happen but if you want to limit muscle loss then do cardio at a low intensity instead of high intensity or else you will lose lots of muscle. When lifting weights just try not to rest too much between sets this will help burn your fat while maintaining muscle. Also the most important thing eat lots of protein for your building blocks or take protein shakes without too many carbs. I've competed in fitness/aerobic and gymnastic competitions so if you need advice then just email me.

agreed, I think the spider trumps GSP in almost every aspect except maybe on the ground

Especially if the Spider is hungry, I know he aint happy with what happened on the Kote fight, I bet he wants to hurt somebody, like he did Franklin..:rotfl

Moving up in weight and fighting bigger opponents didn't stop De La Hoya from winning championships. It didn't stop Pacquiao from beating De La Hoya's ass either. Didn't stop Royce Gracie from winning 3 UFC Tournaments (where EVERY opponent he fought weighed more), It hasn't stopped Fedor from beating every opponent he's faced (who again, routinely weigh more). It also didn't stop B.J. the first time he did it from LW to WW and choked out Matt Hughes to win the WW Title. There's numerous other instances of fighters moving up (sometimes multiple) weight classes and being successful. Bottomline, weight/moving up a weight class had nothing to do with Saturdays mauling. GSP is just a better fighter and has evolved since the first time they fought. Penn has not.

I just think GSP needed a beat down like the one Serra gave him....After that, GSP realized he could be beat....Maybe the same will happen to BJ....

Thanks for the advice. Coming from a lovely young lady like yourself I'll have to accept your offer.

Um, you guys do know GSP is facing Alves next?

Yessir and Alves is going to test GSP way more than Penn and Fitch. Alves has way better standup than BJ and Fitch and his takedown defense is just as good as BJ's. GSP will finally fight someone who is bigger than him. Fitch was close but wasnt that great of a fighter (good but not great) Alves will test GSP and Kenny Florian will test BJ. Since BJ is coming off of a loss from GSP he will lose against Kenny Florian.

Huh!? You know Alves and Fitch fought before in 2006 right? Fitch dominated Alves. Outwrestled him, took him down at will and almost submitted him twice. Then he landed an upkick and finished the fight with strikes to get the T(KO) win.

You do know that it was three years ago right? If people compared fighters to their past selves of three years back then they would all suck. Look at GSP, he was good in 2006 but now he's great. Look at Jens Pulver, he looked goo in 2006 but now sucks. Fighters change over the years.

GSP is prolly the best wrestler though in the UFC, is there anyone who he hasnt been able to take down and hold there? a lot of ppl thought bj has the best take down defense but GSP was still able to hold him down for most of the fight, alves may b just as strong, but i think GSP is very persistent and he is able to take down anyone when he tries hard enough

Koscheck was really the only wrestler who had wrestling ability over GSP but he abandoned that route and turned to a kickboxer with takedown defense. Thiago Alves will have better standup than GSP but GSP will be able to take him down. ALves has a BJJ black belt so i don't think he will have that big of a problem on the ground game, yes GSP will beat him on the ground game but he won't submit him or ground and pound him.

i havent even seen Alves fight since he first fought in LW div, so i will b curious to c how much he has improved over the years, he is defn bigger, but prolly not as quick cause he kinda looks bulky and that might take away from his quickness, but idk.........wait and c i guess
