i havent even seen Alves fight since he first fought in LW div, so i will b curious to c how much he has improved over the years, he is defn bigger, but prolly not as quick cause he kinda looks bulky and that might take away from his quickness, but idk.........wait and c i guess

He's actually pretty quick, he walks around at 200 LBS....

You do know that it was three years ago right? If people compared fighters to their past selves of three years back then they would all suck. Look at GSP, he was good in 2006 but now he's great. Look at Jens Pulver, he looked goo in 2006 but now sucks. Fighters change over the years.

smh. You completely missed the point. Fitch DOMINATED Alves 3 years ago. You say "Fighters change over the years" :duh so in YOUR opinion Fitch didn't "change" and become a lot better than before when he whooped Alves' ass, by the time he fought GSP!? Because I think he did. And you saw what happened to Fitch when he fought GSP. Even with that growth and 3 years, he was still beaten soundly. But somehow, in your eyes, Alves (who got smashed by Fitch) has magically gotten EVEN better than Fitch!?

I would agree Alves has gotten better, but not to the point that I see his upcoming fight with GSP going any other way then what happened to Penn or Fitch. GSP has better wrestling, better takedowns, a better ground game + the best top game in the sport. Alves has never submitted ANYONE in MMA. His ground game in MMA is non-existent at this point and not even a threat. Not to mention Alves has been submitted twice. So once it goes to the ground Alves is in trouble. And trust me, he won't be able to stop the takedowns. Add in a suspect gas tank, past weight problems plus Alves' first championship match.. Sweet lord.

If he does get the upset he absolutely deserves it. I just don't see it happening.

After seeing Alves in the Koscheck Fight, he totally dissapointed me man, you saw GSP take Kos apart.....

i would go for GSP only simply do to his takedowns and ground and pound, for alves to win, prolly have to be in stand up some how.

I think GSPs stand up is much improved, you saw those stiff jabs to BJs face, I dont really like Alves standup much...

yeah, like i said i havent seen any Alves recent fights, but i heard he knocked out hughes standing so i thought it was a possibility :monkey1

He caught him with s flying knee, I say GSP will KO Alves if it stays on the feet, he is just to quick.....

He caught him with s flying knee

imo if it weren't for Hughes hurting his knee (which required surgery) after that knee, the fight would've continued. That's why Matt didn't fight back after that, he wasn't hurt from the Alves knee. Karo on the other hand WAS hurt and got KO'ed (flash) by the Alves flying knee. And iunno, I was impressed by Alves in the Kos fight. Had some nasty F'n leg kicks man. If UFC 100 could have GSP vs. Alves (MW Championship) + Rashad vs. Lyoto or (if he beats Jardine) Quinton (LW Championship) + maybe Couture (if he's healed) vs. Nogueira that would be sick!!!

I think Nog is just to slow, any fighter with good hands can beat him....If Frank Mir was able to beat him in the stand up game, any of the other HW can beat him....

that is so true, with all due respect for Nogueira...he is not a good mma fighter,he is a good BJJ fighter but not much more.

Damn guys. Nog is a straight up badass. You must not have watched him in PRIDE. He has fought some amazing strikers and done well. CROCOP and others. Mir just did well against him that night. He really does have a great chin also. It usually takes Nog getting hit a few times to get him started. Don't count him out just yet. :D

Some people judge by the fighter by their last fight, or if they had one bad fight they suck. I'm sure there are some explainations. They do have lives outside of the cage. I don't understand why people down talk on the fighters. Anyone who gets a chance in the UFC has skills, even the noobs that gets owned.

Nog is 3 - 2 in his last 5 fights.. and before the Mir fight Nog choked out Tim Sylvia for the interim UFC HW Belt (becoming the first HW fighter to be both PRIDE & UFC HW Champion). I don't consider that a "finished" fighter. If he loses his next 2 - 3 fights.. then yes I'd say it's time for Big Nog to rethink continuing with MMA fights. But right now, NO. I think he could absolutely beat alot of current HW fighters out there. Especially in the UFC. He's not done. Not yet.

yeah i was about to add something like this. Nog is just a little slow to get started, but once he does he's on it. i think he's one of the best BJJ guys around today (in his weight anyways)
~~anyone really interested in watching Liddell fight???

Just because ALves lost to Fitch and Fitch lost to GSP doesn't mean Alves will lose. Some fighters match up better than other fighters against each other. Wanderlei beat Rampage, Rampage beat Chuck, CHuck beat Wanderlei. That's a perfect example right there.:duh:duh Each fighters have their ups and downs in the sport, GSP happens to have a lot of good and few bads but he hasnt faced a fighter like ALves who has raw power and can get up in your face, pkus GSP will finally fight someone who is bigger and stronger. I'm not saying ALves will win but i will never count any fighter out in MMA.

Frank Mir always had good standup, he grew up learning standup. It was his conditioning that made his standup look bad, he has a new coach and got his conditioning right and now he can take advantage of his standup which he did in the Nog fight. BTW Nogueria isn't washed up, we don't know why he looked bad, it could be something he doesnt want us to know or he might truthfully be going downhill, but still he's an extremly expirienced fighter and he knew what to do in the Mir fight and lost. You have to give Mir credit for that and not say it's because Nogueria can't fight.

I like the matchups with GSP vs. Alves, but Penn vs. FLorian should be on that card also so we can see Penn get his ass kicked by FLorian and lose back to back fights. Two belts, Rampage vs. Griffin maybe, and COuture vs Nog would be excelent. I mean it is UFC 100

Actually yes, Liddell is in a do or die situation against a very good fighter, but Shogun has been disapointing his last couple of fights. I think whoever loses should either a. retire b.start completely over again (like fighting on the undercard and work their way back up) Chuck has been giving too many chances, but he did impress me with the Wanderlei fight and he has too many fand and brings in to much money so i don't see CHuck retiring until he loses at least two more fights.

Oh no.. I wasn't using stupid MMA Math. I was saying, Fitch dominated Alves. And GSP dominated Fitch. Styles make fights, and that's what I'm saying: imo GSP and Fitch have similar styles (Mostly Wrestling + Takedowns, GnP/Submissions with some stand up when neccessary).
It would be different if the had two completely different styles (like one a striker, one a BJJ guy), but imo they have very similar styles except GSP is better. So if Alves had problems with Fitch (who Alves OUTWEIGHED) then I don't see that weight being a factor for GSP. And if Alves had problems with Fitch's wrestling, takedowns, GnP he's definitely going to have problems with GSP.

I've been hearing that the UFC might add that Penn/Florian fight to UFC 99 (in Germany) with Couture vs. Big Nog as a co-main event. Who knows how true that is though.

I agree with you on that, GSP should be able to take Alves down but Alves is going to be training his ass off so it should be a really good fight seeing as Alves's gameplans have been flawless his past 4 fights.

That would be a pretty fight card IMO, I kind of feel sorry for Penn because if he loses his belt to Florian, which i think he will, Penn will go from the ^^^^ to a 2 fight losing streak with no belt.:horror

On another note i'm pretty excited for the next two UFC events, Fight night this Sat. doesn't have any big names but should be good nonetheless and Sanchez vs. Stevenson is going to be killer. I mean i like every fight on the main card besides the co-main event. It's pretty sad that the UFC will let two nobody's fight in a co-main event just because one of them is from England and that's where the event is being held.

ANyways my predicitions are as followed starting from Fight Night.

Joe Lauzon vs. Jeremy Stephens
Cain Velasquez vs. Denis Stojnić
Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer
Luigi Fioravanti vs. Anthony Johnson
Rich Clementi vs. Gleison Tibau

Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Stevenson[2]
Rory Markham vs. Dan Hardy[2]
Demian Maia vs. Chael Sonnen[2]
Nate Marquardt vs. Wilson Gouveia[2]
Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago
Junior dos Santos vs. Stefan Struve
