Dog Soldiers was a big surprise for me a few years ago. I hadn't heard a thing about it and took a chance. It is a well done modern horror flick IMO. It also has a bit of an "outsmarted" twist to it.

Picked up Dog Soldiers after seeing the Descent, just haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I always hear such great things about it I really need to dig it out of my stack of unwatched movies and see it already.

I enjoyed it. (Malkovich rules!) Not sure if it's a horror movie though.

[Edit] Scratch that. I don't know what else you would classify it as. It's gotta be horror.

Anyone see Shadow of the Vampire? Great film.

Absolutely, great flick, very creepy, and one of Dafoe's best performances in my opinion. Picked it up at Walmart a few weeks ago for just five bucks, after loving it for so many years. Great film.

I expected it to be uber lame and it wound up being pretty ____ing awesome. Outpost is another good one.

Okay I think I will get some flack for this but one of my favorite scifi horror films of the 90's was The Faculty. It had it's campy parts, but I loved pretty much everything about it.

There is one other movie that I could add to my list of "5 I wont watch", but I cant remember the name. The basic premise is a man is left to his own devices in an autopsy room. In addition to extreme gore, it depicts necrophilia. Anyone know which one I mean?

Yep thats Aftermath from Nacho Cerda. Its actually 3 stories in 1 movie. Its actually interesting. Basically 3 different views on death.

Its probably the most famous necrophilia movie even more so than Necromantik. Again..to me a little over hyped, but when I finally seen it thought it was interesting...again I think theres that part of me that couldnt help but think the autopsy scene is for sheer shock value, because really thats the only part of the movie anyone ever talks about. The other 2 little stories are actual stories with really no gore or horror whatso ever.

I can honestly say this is one movie I dont own because after seeing it I was done, not something i would watch again.

Yeah, that must be the one I was thinking of.

Speaking of autopsys: Have any of you seen The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes?

Not a horror movie at all. But "gory" (and real) none-the-less.

For me this has a similar appeal to Flower of Flesh and Blood in that it overtly confronts death and shows what we are made of at the most visceral level... except there is no violence in this and the bodies are real rather than special effects. Obviously not for the faint of heart or for those who cant appreciate the "artsy fartsy." It's an "experimental" film, and there is intentionally no sound.

I have attended a cadaver dissection, but an autopsy is quite another thing. I have tried to watch clips of this movie, but seems like no one posts the most graphic stuff. I have been meaning to buy it for a long time and I keep forgetting to.

...off to ebay I go...

[Edit: I found it: https://catalog.ebay.com/Brakhage-Anthology-DVD-2003-/3410241?_dmpt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&_fifpts=1&_pcatid=1&_refkw=Brakhage+Anthology++Criterion+Collection&_trksid=p4978.c0.m456#{%22Page%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fcatalog.ebay.com%2FBrakhage-Anthology-DVD-2003-%2F3410241%3F_aset%3D0%26_dmpt%3DUS_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray%26_fifpts%3D1%26_htch%3D1%26_pcatid%3D1%26_refkw%3DBrakhage%2520Anthology%2520%2520Criterion%2520Collection%26_rptype%3D4295%26_sticky%3D1%26_tab%3D2%26_trksid%3Dp4295.c0.m299%26_sop%3D15%26_sc%3D1%22} Or just search "Brakhage Anthology Criterion Collection"

Its funny how this thread has went from under rated horror films to just wierd obscure horror movies that we've all seen. Either way still a great thread.
...and to keep it going, ever hear of a movie called Philosphy of a Knife. I think its more of a shock value exploitation kind of along the lines of Men Behind the Sun.
I think philosophy of a knife is about WWII Japanese doing experiements... never seen it actually just another one of those flicks thats been hyped up in the
underground horror world.

Havent read the thread or anything but Funny Games is awesome.

Sorry if its been said, just checked in :D

i love this thread. i got 7 movies listed for me to search and watch hopefully.:yess:

regarding the gory stuff and genre for the matter, i find it helpful for my work actually. i dont get squeamish when faced with the real deal:pray:.

I saw the remake first and was gonna watch the original but I was told its pretty much shot for shot so didnt bother. Is it a lot better?

LOADS better than the original. Even though they were very close, the original was just done so much better. It was creepier.

What is on your list?

Have you ever watched the flash scenes in Event Horizon in slow motion. There's some messed up ____ in there! :rock

Oh yes! I bought the DVD just so I could do that. Also, The Exorcist flash scenes. That face is quite scary, even today.

Funny Games was good until the rewind portion. I still don't get that...
