Hell yeah, Night of the Demons is fantastic. I heard the remake was looking to be pretty decent. I remember reading some things on it a while back on bloody-disgusting.com

That definetly brings back memories, totally forgot about that flick. Really really good.

Sorry nam....didn't see it earlier in this thread. I was actually trying to think of the title the other day. Almost got it confused with Demons..but realized that was an entirely separate movie.

Why the hell would you apologize?! :dunno:lol

As for Demons, yet another equally underrated flick and arguably one of a small handful tolerable Italian flicks from that era.

speaking of horrible zombie flicks, steer clear from Ulli Lommel's Zombienation. that's the worst zombie movie i've seen so far, IMO.

it has that oldskul porno quality production without the porn...
techno-disco music for zombie rampage....
chicks with bad make up=zombie

:gah:

I dunno. I'd take that any day of the week over Uwe Boll's House of the Dead. Kung Fu Zombies in a non-kung fu movie...:monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

I am usually pretty respectful of people's opinions but zomg that movie was so terrible.

But I will admit I want to check out the 3rd cause it looks brutal.

Opinions are fun to me....Just call us even , 'cause I think the Buffy series was terrible.

Civil War: I'm not with Buffy:(

I think the first Wrong Turn movie was great because it automatically reminded me of how '80's horror movies were before they started getting tons of sequels and had to try to go so over the top.

Now, the Wrong Turn sequels are over the top.:rotfl

When the teenagers are hiding in the inbred mountainmen's house while they drag their friends in is classic (as well as the Axe death up in the tree and that skinny mountainman screaming as he chases them through the abandoned cars)

Underrated!!!!

Just pulled Flowers of Flesh and Blood out of the mailbox. Viewing tommorow before work, and I'll try to post my thoughts then. Oh boy.

Please do. I hate to admit that I've never seen this flick and it sounds very interesting.

Got my latest Fangoria last night and they have the Night of the Demons remake as opening Sept 24, 2010. Just FYI.

i've been forewarned about those flicks, so havent seen them.
anyway, the zombies in zombenation cant even pass as a good zombie Halloween costume...that bad.:panic:

@furystorm

HotD's Kung Fu zombies looked like horrible Power Rangers villains draped in potato sacks so I guess it's a toss up for suckage. :monkey1

Just remember to keep your expectations low for the "sound effects."

The sound effects are what tell you its not real. I mean the special effects are pretty damn good considering theres no CG and it was all makeup and such for its time. Again when this came out I remember reading an article about the FX team that did it and were basically showcasing themselves as to kind of a "look what we can do" type of film.

Flowers of Flesh and Blood:

This was an extraordinarily gory film, which I actually had to pause at two points and look away from. I won't say which parts, but if you have seen it you can probably guess. I like the stalker aspects, and I even dug the somewhat corny narration by the "collector." He certainly freaked me out with his quasi-kabuki makeup and samurai helmet. The film is very short, which I'm kind of glad for, but enjoyable, and something I will enjoy lending out to a chosen few of my friends, to help secure my title of "freak." I don't know if I need this in my permanent collection, and I even feel a tiny bit guilty for owning it at all. The effects were great, and very convincing, especially in the two points where I needed the break. Oh, I did not mind any of the sound effects, but what did cause a break in the pseudo-reality of the film was the use of video, and the obvious camera work. I think I would have preferred it to have been a bit of shaky cam or on a tripod, like this guy was all by himself. However, that reminds me that someone posted about an easter egg on the DVD with something just like that. I'm going to have to go check that out now.

Recommended for gore hounds.

The easter egg is "snuff vision".

It takes out the opening scene, and if I remember right takes out all the crazy samurai talk. It is still the same footage, but what makes it more believable is that it looks like they transferred it from an old VHS bootleg of it. More disturbing, but I actually like the narration. The "collector" sees beauty his "work" and I do too... well I see beauty in the special effects work anyway.

My guess for the 2 scenes you had to pause:

The disembowelment (my favorite) and the eye scooping scene.

I totally get feeling guilty about owning it. After watching it twice, I had to get rid of it. The friends I did show it to were not at all amused... and I think they saw me as a freak... not in a good way. :lol

Kinda wanna watch it again now though. :D

Also worth checking out is Mermaid in a Manhole (I think that's it's name). It's another Guinea Pig film. It's more "gross out" than gore, and definitely more fun, but it also has the "making of" Flower of Flesh and Blood on it. I really enjoyed seeing these guys (and the actress) laughing on set. Cool to see how much can be done with practical effects.

The making of is included on the DVD I received, so I will check that out soon too. And you were dead on with the parts where I needed a break.

Maybe we should start a new thread for "best gore movies."

But to be fair, it's not uncommon for threads to veer off topic a little.

Being the operative word. I think the new thread's a good idea. I've seen my fare share and don't mind back-n-forth either, but people might be turned off of the actual topic if they pop in here and continually read about these flicks - which are NOT underrated :lol. And that's a shame because there're some great films mentioned here.
