Been unemployed since July when my coworker/girlfriend broke my heart.

I've applied for more jobs than there are toys in my room, and no luck whatsoever. I eat a lot of cup of noodles.

I was accepted by Americorps, but they pushed my ship date back six months due to a physical condition of mine.
I've got a position teaching an afterschool art class to teenagers lined up, and I really hope it doesn't fall through.

My no gal/few friends/no job time killers:

- Draw/Ink
- Write
- SSF boards
- Facebook
- Ebay
- Movies
- Books/Comics
- Run
- Masturbate
- Sleep

Rough chapter of my life.

To the other unemployed people out there.... what the hell do you do to occupy your days?? I've been looking for a job since finishing grad school and I've come to the point where I have nothing left to do. I've read through all the books that were backlogged, played all the video games that I missed out on in the past 4 years, and I'm getting tired of watching my old movies.

I've been going to the gym every morning and again later at night, but what else is there to do that is free???

I've never been unemployed. I worked at BK or made things to sell inbetween high paying jobs. You just have to do that sometimes.

I have been out of work for sometime too. I try to clean, and organize things, watch some tv shows on dvd, video games. Use this thing here (pc) and look for work. It's all I can do. There's not much else. It's sad really.

I've been doing this in my off time. I've been volunteering at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge and the local E.C.H.O. (community outreach program) I actually love doing this as I get to have all sorts of fun with the people I work with even though it sucks that I can't get paid to do it.

I've known some people that did do charity work and eventually got promoted to paying positions within the charity.

Wook you may want to take the Masters off your resume..some employers might see that and based on the experience you have figure they have to pay you more and call someone who doesn't have one. You could always tell them in the interview unless the job requires a Masters.

i had some military awards on mine and noticed I wasn't getting calls and then i figured out they were worried I would get deployed but since I was totally out of my contract by years I won't get called up so I took it off and they started calling for interviews. One company called me back and during the interview they mentioned they thought I had military experience and during the conversation I figured out I was right since they asked several times if I could be deployed. They had seen my resume when the experience was on there before and didn't call then. Make sure you have on there that you are out of the military and can't be called up. As wrong as that sounds I can see where that would be an issue for a hiring company.

For all of those unemployed, hang in there, I was there last year and it sucked because jobs aren't plentiful. It took 3 months after I was laid off but I ended up getting a better job and almost a 20k raise and am in charge now (read less red tape and morons to hurdle) and love what I do.

I am a bottom scraper and always will be. Someone has to do it. I make just enough to get by and buy a few toys. Good luck to all who can acheive more!

My question is, HOW DO YOU AFFORD TO NOT WORK?!?!?

Even though I have a couple years until I finish school, I am reluctant to move back to Florida.... I just hope I can have something lined up when I finish, or even BEFORE!

It wasn't easy, but I saved almost all of my money while I was in the military. While serving overseas the $$ was exceptional, and considering I was single at the time I had nothing to do but bank on it. I was in debt a few years ago because I refused to touch any of that money that I put into a CD, but the first of 2008 I paid off all of my bills and have been debt free since. I was injured while overseas so I still retain all my military health benefits as well as collecting a nice disability % from the V.A. so I have monthly income to live off of.

I went through a long bout of unemployment last year, and understand the frustration.

I've heard Dave Ramsey recommend Dan Miller's "48 Days to the work you love", for people looking to get a jumpstart career-wise. I haven't read it myself, but thought I would drop in and offer the suggestion to anyone that wanted to hear about it. There is another book by Miller for people wanting to go into business for themselves -- though I don't recall the title.

I also found Dave Ramsey's financial program extremely helpful in surviving unemployment. Remarkably, my family was in better financial shape after my unemployment than before it ... largely because of Ramsey's ideas.

His ideas are a bit simple, but they do work extremely well. Also, I should mention, both Ramsey and Miller are Christian, and, though they don't evangelize in their books (that I am aware of), there is a definite Christian overtone -- so if that would bother you, I'd skip them.

Hope I can provide a little help. If not, feel free to go about your business.
