SW = ST

Both excel in very different ways.....

BUT SW has lightsabers........

Whats ST got that SW does not? Aside from a much more explored universe and more to choose from. Probably revisit this idea in 10 years or after we get a live action SW TV show.

I'm not a ST fan, but I do know it tends strives more for sci-fi than SW. It has a lot of interesting concepts, I know I would probably be a fan if I gave it a shot, but I don't need another fandom in my life :lol

The Walking Dead is an overrated piece of crap! Dead Like Me is phenomenal. Harry Potter sucks.... if you want a good take on that sort of thing, watch the Magicians. :)

I force myself to "like" Star Trek: The Original Series. The Next Generation is leaps and bounds better and has more depth in terms of both world building and characterization past three characters. I don't think liking TNG more than TOS is necessarily an uncommon opinion, but I think ranking Voyager above the Original Series is.

Oh and my favorite Star Trek movie is Star Trek: Generations despite all the discrepancies and issues brought to light by Mr. Plinkett. That was my first exposure to the TNG crew before I saw the regular series so didn't realize just how much they messed up.

What made Generations great is all it does to fill in gaps and tie to the overall universe. It's the only Trek movie that really TRIED to be part of the whole Trek universe as it stood at the time. Lursa and B'Etor getting involved with Soran makes complete sense - they were exiles, and set up as basically just getting by in DS9 prior to that. Of course, they also showed up in TNG multiple times. I didn't realize until recently that the whole Duras feud was also tied up in the DS9 episode "The Sword of Kahless" about a year after that movie. Just that simple inclusion made the movie "feel" more "real" within the Trek world.

It also expanded on the Ent-B, which was awesome. And despite the fact that I don't like how Kirk died (no one really does), Soran's character was interesting and had some great lines. He also was a good foil for Picard. The setup of him facing his own mortality with his family dying (another nod to TNG), and then being offered this gift in the Nexus, made for some good storytelling. It integrated the B- and A-plots excellently. Data's emotion chip was a call back to TNG too, of course, and although some of his scenes were cringe-worthy, it made sense as a step forward for him.

While I still think First Contact is an overall better film, Generations was more TNG. And that's a GOOD THING.

Okay all this talk got me to give Trek another chance, especially since Netflix has the first six films available right now. Watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture last night, first time I've seen it all the way through since about 1982. It wasn't bad. Pretty cool visuals, a compelling sci-fi tone, and Shatner and company were pretty likable. I was going to follow with Wrath of Khan but got sucked into Daredevil all over again. Still though I look forwarding to checking out ST with a brand new mindset after all these years. I'll try and binge II-VI over the next week or so to see what I think of them.

I won't be revisiting any films after VI though. Patrick Stewart is great but I hate TNG and everything after. I don't think any of that bunch save Stewart were ever worthy to appear in a feature film.

Star trek is ok, depending on the show or movie. I was never a big fan, but liked TOS and TNG just fine, though I'm not sure I could get into it today, as it feels a bit dated, and as far as TNG goes, I find Brent Spiner a bit annoying. I liked some movies, WOK, TVH, and FC.

:lol

I'm serious though. If you watch any episode of TOS and then ST:TMP or Wrath of Khan you go "whoa, quite the cinematic upgrade." If you watch TNG and then a TNG film you go "okay, looks like the same crappy show but just on a larger screen."

Aren't you at least glad that I'm giving Shatner and company another chance? :lol

I remember going to see the horrible Nemesis on the big screen, bored that day, I guess. Towards the end there was a fight scene between the bad guy and Picard, and I swear they must have run out of money making the movie, cause they were fighting against a chroma screen at one point.

Maybe that speaks more to the high quality of (the later seasons of) TNG.

Generally you're right I guess, TNG didn't translate to movies quite as well as one would have hoped. But personally I wish Worf had been more in focus, I dunno why it always had to be Picard and Data. How about Picard and Worf.
