It's not a racial/gender/whatever issue at all. In general, if you have someone new taking over the mantle of a position that has had a lot of history, naturally there will be backlash. I mean look at Daniel Craig himself, when he was first cast as Bond there was an outrage saying how the franchise was ruined and how he would do an awful job. Now look at him. This change might be seen as horrible right now to a lot of people, not because of race, but because of the dramatic transition in the leading role. Give it time, if the film makers actually make the transition make sense and don't simply use the casting choice as a PR stunt to sway the media then I think people will come around.

It might not be for you, but to deny that this thread isn't full of racism and sexism would be insane.

This site has a huge racism and sexism problem and always has.

The impression I get from the rationale being given with this is: this isn’t the new James Bond, it’s just simply the 007 code name. But, James Bond hung it up so far all intents and purposes, this is indeed the new “James Bond.”

It’s almost like they don’t want to say that it is indeed for all intents and purposes a replacement because they know the backlash it’d receive, so they’re basically trying to use the MCU route with Captain America in Endgame as the way to do it.

On that same token, I don’t see it being any different than what happened with Captain America in Endgame. Steve Rogers retired and passed the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson. Only the transition with that felt more smooth to me and not as forced as 007.

I haven’t seen a Bond film in theaters in ages though, so I doubt I’ll see this new “007” one, either.

The plot of the movie is literally "James Bond retired but is pulled back in."

She's just a side character in what's still a James Bond movie, played by Daniel Craig.

Could you reference the posts in this thread where people are blatantly discriminating against people based on race and gender? I don’t think simply not having an interest in a film is evidence of that.

Idris Elba can’t be too happy.

That dude would make an excellent James Bond. He’s one of the coolest, most suave cats in Hollywood right now.

Love to see serena williams get the role now shes no good at tennis any more.........maybe i am too progressive but i believe with the right eyebrows she could really nail the role.....plus the look on all the racist faces as she finally nails miss moneypenny would be worth the price of admission alone.

Does religion count? I would repost but those were deleted I believe.

One of the aforementioned youtubers

Is this guy racist? A white supremacist? What is he?

What would his label be? Anyone?

People in this thread are being labeled as racists and sexists. Religion doesn’t show up in the definition of either of those words.

That was a *** at me and Lejuan.

We declared in another thread some time ago that we were ''not fans'' of Islam. I'm not particularly a fan of any religion by the way and yet some of my best friends on here are highly religious.

He's the "we need a black actor" meme. Besides he has already said he doesn't want to be Bond. Also he's too old. They'll want someone younger.

Re: Black woman cast as 007... let's all lose our freakin' minds

She's playing 007, not James Bond you idiots. Read the article.

Bond quits MI6. They recruit a new 007. It's part of the plot of the movie.

This isn't even the first time in the series that Bond has lost the codename.

First, I’d like to call you idiot too!

Then, I know it’s just a plot point.

Still...

There’s clearly an agenda behind this. Now, I don’t care about race or gender or anything. It’s just called respecting a character. If James Bond had been written as a black female, I’d be 100% behind. But the thing is, he’s been written as a white male, and a misogynistic one at that. So I’m ****ing tired of this new trend which wants to erase what is to make things PC .

Call me whatever you want, racist, misogynistic, rigid, I don’t ****ing care, Bond is a white male, and not a black woman. And if you’re in doubt, go back and read the books.

I would like someone to explain this to me: Scarlett Johansson is cast in Ghost in the Shell and to play a transgender actress and there's outrage. A black woman is cast to play a role traditionally played by a white male and there's outrage. Only one of the outraged groups is considered racist.

Those who have a permanent victim complex need everyone who doesn't share their opinion on something to be an "-ist" or a "-phobe" of some kind. Those who do not have a permanent victim complex are capable of recognizing the fact that others may simply have a different opinion on how any given source material should be respected.

For many people today simply expressing a personal preference is frowned upon. Much better to instead virtue signal to everyone that you're on "the right side of history" in order to hopefully receive the emotional validation they so desperately desire.

Yeah I got that. I’m just more less conveying that I think he has the consummate Bond persona.

Once you realize that they’re not actually attempting to advance a steadfast set of ideas or principles that apply to everyone, but that everything is done in attempt to simply paint their “opponents” as being bad people, then it all makes sense. Hence, why you often get selective outrage.

This is a toy forum. Why the hell is religion being brought up for? It's always funny when someone "declares" their opinion on something, and they get called out on it... they're the victim?

I believe the new slogan for this is: It’s more important to be morally right than factually correct. And that words speak louder than actions.

This isn't always true. But you can always read in between the lines with statements quite easily.

It was the sandbox - all sorts of non-toy related subjects come up there, that's the point of it. It's generally asked not to bring up religion, but if it's going to come up that's where it would go. Even still, they don't approve of it so I was bending the rules there admittedly.

As far as thinking myself a victim for being called on it? I didn't :dunno

-edit- I've just remembered further details about the sandbox thing. I actually didn't bring it up. I just chimed in after someone else did. And we were condemning the Christchurch gun massacre of muslims in New Zealand by a white supremacist.

For anyone curious about the context
