Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

^ just saw that for the first time!

Is that a modded/resculpted head or made from scratch?

Looks real nice

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

haha no dude, yes it does look better than yours but i'm pretty damn sure if i tried sculpting i could not match what you have done so far for a first try, it's all about putting the time in and you will surely get better and better

thanks buddy! but in all fairness like Mag has said, It's a resculpt of the Takara, though I am thinking of getting a rubber type of sculpting clay and sculpt one from scratch.

You have more freedom from not being constrained by what's already there. I've found the beauty of sculpting from scratch after working on my Johnny Depp head. still not completely finished, but there's so much freedom.

Don't give up! i have a feeling yours will come out looking a lot better!

^^^Lookin' good. Did you ever say what character this is? Did I miss that?

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

GREAT job on the mouth area man - can definately tell who it is from there - Love the hair too.

In terms of critique, the distance between the cheekbones and the eyes i think is too big, look fwd to seeing more updates :)

It's not a specific character. Just Johnny Depp. I want to try and start a Johnny Depp collection of figures and thought i'd start it off with my first full on from scratch custom of him then get the rest of his figures as I can.

thanks Mag!

not to toot my own horn, but it's one of my favorite things about this head.
Happy birthday :)

Thanks void! :hi5:

I did originally try the typical shoulder length hair Depp has but it didn't work all that well IMO..but here are the reference shots I used for the hair.

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Yeah, you nailed that hair!

Your sculpt is really close to this. But that's a painting and not a photo right?

Thanks! and yep you're right. I found the original image online somewhere, but it was really small, but it was almost exactly the same and the painting was a lot bigger image size so I just went with the painting. I saw that and was like "that's how I want the smile to look" and I didn't find any other image that captured it that way at least to my eyes

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

How did my post get in front of yours?! :panic:

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

oh well I hate it when images aren't similar in size (there were 2 that were bigger than the rest), and photobucket and the forum act funny if I repost a resized image, it ends up posting as the original size and not the resized one. so, when that happens, I always delete my post log out and repost everything again :lol but from the looks of it, it didnt work :slap

I think I know what you're talking about. After you resize the picture in photobucket (or do any editing in photobucket for that matter) just refresh the page where you posted it and you will see the correct size - which is what we will all be seeing.

I do it all the time. Never have to log out etc.

It sounds like you might be even more OCD than me!

:lol

Weird.

I only worry about pics being the same size when it's my own pics and I want a certain artistic continuity. For something like this...

...well that's just straight ocd. :lol
