Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

the mouth look spot on!! gd job!! but i think the nose need to be edit.

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Thanks bud! I think it's the light thats making it look maybe too wide b/c it's actually rather thin and narrow like it's supposed to be. But I'll check it out ;)

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Ooh very nice. That's definitely recognizable asap.

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Thanks man! The sculpt is done now. Added the hair last night, but I guess I forgot how to paint over the semester b/c I've tried 3 times and can't get the skin tone right:slap:gah:

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

well since the paint has been giving me trouble, just thought I'd at least share the final sculpt with you guys :)

(PS: The light is making the sculpt look really rough for some reason. In hand it's pretty darn smooth and all those ridges aren't even noticeable. The light's also making the nose look pretty wide)

NewBaleSculpt1.jpg

here you can see how it kind of fits, (as it should since it was my main reference pic) though the pics weren't taken at the exact same angle, I tried anyways (plus it made me feel better about the sculpt :monkey3)
NewBaleSculpt2.jpg

I'm pretty proud of it and think it looks one heck of a lot better than my first attempt. (lets not even go back to that!)

Also just as a fun fact. all that's left of the original Takara HS are the nose, eyes, some of the forehead, and some of the cheeks. Everything else was resculpted. The entire head is now solid and not "squishable' (for lack of better word) and hollow like it used to be.

Anyway, Hope you guys like it :)

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

here's something I guess I never showed you guys but it's my Repaint of the DiD Legolas Sculpt. I also cut off the drowsy looking eyelids as well as a bit of detail cut into the ends of the hair. oh and the sideburns since he didn't have those in the movie. I'm thinking about getting a spare SS Legolas head and attaching the SS neck and Hair to this one but the only problem is that the heads greatly differ in size. but anywhoo, here's the head:

also, finally got around to painting the flesh tone on Bale and the base coat on the hair and eyebrows. should be done by the weekend

cheers and Merry Christmas guys!

I have to say though, this project really made me think about sculpting. I think I had my run of good luck with sculpting but from this, it seems like I just don't have the talent for it. So, I may be closing down my thread and "lock the doors to the workshop" so to speak, we'll see. the only thing I'm proud of on this piece are the eyes. think they're some of the best I've done.

But,I hope you all have enjoyed seeing what I managed to do while the the talent was there. Thanks for all you're kind words guys!

Hate to see ya close up shop because of one head bud. But do what you feel right about. :)

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Bales is a tough likeness it seems - just look at the garbage Yulli put out with HTs TDK batman releases - you made a good stab at it, I'd hate to see you give up after this! Practice makes perfect man, keep at it :)

hey guys...First, I want to say thanks for all your encouragement! it really means a lot! :1-1:

As I was reading ya'lls comments as soon as I read void say that the words "give up" I thought of being a quitter ya know?

I was really down in the dumps the other day or rather the entire weekend, not just about sculpting, but personal reasons as well and reading those words specifically hit me...I'm no quitter. So I says to meself, "If I'm going to not sculpt anymore, I'm going to go out with a bang"....yes I actually said that in my head :lol

and well, here is a fresh WIP sculpt completely from scratch...been working on it for 7hrs as I was so encouraged that I couldn't stop. I'd keep working, but 1) I'm super sleepy and 2) I ran out of clay :( I know it still needs lots of work, but I'm liking where it's going.

so here it is:
photo2.jpg

I have yet to figure out how I'm going to attach it to a body since I have no clue as to how to drill a hole in it when it's done. Plus I think I'd be too afraid to damage it.

Enjoy! and thanks again to all you guys for your encouraging words. I'm not lying when I say that they really picked me up. this will be the last for a while since I move back into my dorm this coming weekend and won't have time to work as much. I'm hoping I don't drop this sculpting hobby as I've enjoyed it. Just have to let the pride go sometimes i guess. thanks again guys! :peace

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Glad the words helped - sometimes we let our emotions get the better of us, but hard work always pays off in the end - I like how the fresh sculpt is looking so far!

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

I'm liking the fresh sculpt so far too. I'm excited to see the final product. Taking breaks is good too because I've realized from some of my wip that after 7hrs or so you begin to make mistakes without realizing it and sometimes when you take a break and look back you can see imperfections that you didn't see before. I notice that a lot with drawings.

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Mate, Legolas looks great. Top repaint! Have you got larger pics? I have a Darren head coming but man that looks like a great 2nd option. If you drop the sculpting you can stick at painting!! :lol (I hope you don't btw)

Really cool all round mate.

Re: Gipetto's Workshop-(Re)Sculpts & Paint Jobs

Just wanted to pop in with an update on the sculpt before I hit the hay. Need to do more refinements especially on the cheek bones, thought the pics I've notice make them look wage more huge than they really are...
But here you go.

I had the full long hair sculpted on there but it just didn't look right too me though I loved the hair, so I "shaved" him bald and had to re-do the ears. he'll be getting shorter hair soon.

But it should be done tomorrow if not by thursday and possibly painted over the weekend then a hunt for the specific clothes I want for it...I've most of them including the stand I want for it, just have to buy them :slap oh yea and the body...think I'm going to go with a Narrow TT

Very true and thanks again void!

Totally agree about making mistakes! Happens all the time with me when drawing as well, especially my line drawings. Luckily my friends and I have found a way to make those mistakes like thy never happened haha

hey buddy, thanks for the compliments on Legolas. I'll have to check to see if I have kore pics of that repaint. I actually did that before I resculpted the SSC Legolas head.

But I think the DiD Legolas definitely has a good and better likeness than that of SSC but not as good as Darren's haha but the only problem is that the DiD head is smaller than the SSC one plus the NFL is shorter so there would need to bs some modding for it to look right. It's just sitting on top of the body in that last pic
Lookin good bro. Dont put t down, you have a rough talent that needs, time to grow..

Wow ! your sculpting skills keeps getting better each new photos !!

Thanks Siquisiri And C-Phan! I'm really digging this sculpting from scratch since there's no restrictions from a previous sculpt being there.

Thanks again to all you guys!
