Re: UPDATED:HT Nostromo Kane : Fabric Spacesuit - PREVIEW PAINTED HEADSCULPT

Tin, it looks really good. I'm glad you recognize how sickly he looked in the film, even before the facehugger got to him.
The rabbit fur is a perfect solution as well. I really admire what you've done thus far- absolutely top shelf.

Edit: By the way, did you read what I posted about Lambert?
I really want to do a full Lambert custom, but it's too late to find a parted-out figure on eBay.
You wouldn't happen to have a spare set of helmet & armor etc. would you?

One more thing- Here's a photo to show how short John Hurt is compared to Tom Skerrett.
Did you use a shorter body for your custom?

wow, it looks really good! the one area though that is hard for me to see is the eyes. They look off right now. I think it might be the right eye. It looks bloodshot or something. also, i believe his eyes are brown, hard to tell if they from the pics.

Here is a pic of him that you may have already seen. In the pic you can also see that he has quite a few marks on his face.

Thanks Reinhardt!:) In those pics - for some reason the eyes look too light. I made them dark dark brown since most of the pics of Hurt - including the one you referenced - his eyes are almost completely pupil. He has those drooping eyelids so you barely see much whites of his eyes. And from a distance - he almost looks like he's got completely black eyes like sharks.

The other thing that's off in those pics from last night are the eyebrows. I've since fixed them and looks much better. I also noticed in most of his pics that he had what my mom used to call "dirty eyes". They always looked bloodshot and not quite white. I wanted to capture that.

Will post pics of the latest version soon. Tin

Thanks Anthrapoid! I did see your post about Lambert. I myself have only two helmets. One for Kane, and one I'm saving for a Ripley version. Yeah - parts for these are impossible to get now. I was lucky to get the extra helmet way back.

The good news is that I can pretty much make all the suits the exact same size - just using different colors for the Dallas, Kane and Lambert versions. The way the real suits are designed - they're sort of one-size-fits-all. Those bands around the arms and legs with the distinct cord stitching is meant to allow the suits to be adjusted for different users.

So if you notice in the movie - Dallas's suit fits differently from Kane and Lambert because he was taller. So his pants hang almost like normal cargo pants. While Kane and Lambert had all of the cord lacings pulled tighter to conform to their dimensions. So they look much more bulky in their suits. Pretty cool.

Re: UPDATED:HT Nostromo Kane : Fabric Spacesuit - PREVIEW PAINTED HEADSCULPT

I made a wired cord for the flashlight. And sculpted a discreet little socket on the bottom of the backpack to plug into.

John Hurt actually has a blue and brown thing going with his eyes. It's weird as hell. I checked Alien on Blu-Ray on a 72 inch a little bit ago, and that made it more noticeable. This is the best picture I could find online that shows it clearly:

Re: UPDATED:HT Nostromo Kane : Fabric Spacesuit - PREVIEW PAINTED HEADSCULPT

I understand that all the suits are 'one size fits all'. that would make sense.
I meant to ask if you perhaps used a shorter body for Kane, or cut his height down a bit? Whether the characters are suited up in the film or not, you can easily see Dallas is much taller than Kane.

I have both Dallas & Kane figures. If it's at all possible, I would like to buy both colored suits from you, even if the work is spread out over time.
As for Lambert... I might have to bite the bullet and purchase another whole figure, just to acquire the helmet, armor, etc., then I'll be pestering you to make a blue suit for me!

you make me sick! your work on this is just crazzy!

Whoah. That IS pretty freaky. He's got a thick band of blue around the brown center. That (plus his drooping eyelids) would explain why the whites of his eyes are so minimal looking. Also why his pupils look extra large at a distance.

Thanks Griffin! :)

Hey Anthrapoid. I did use a shorter body for Kane. I made it from a couple of old Dragon bodys I had in hand. So if I end up making a Dallas and use a HT body - he should be about 3/4 inch taller than Kane.

Although I'll probably use a Dragon body again (not modifying it to be short).

Tin I'm running out of superaltives. Let's just say John Mollo would be proud! :clap

Re: UPDATED:HT Nostromo Kane : Fabric Spacesuit - PREVIEW PAINTED HEADSCULPT

A relatively simple but dramatic modification of the spotlight on the helmet. I basically sculpted a new fixture where the spotlight mounts to the top of the helmet. The new fixture positions the spotlight more forward to the front and angled more downward. This projects more of the spot light towards the inside of the helmet. The way it was mounted originally was too horizontal to the back base of the helmet.

Not precisely screen accurate, but I like the profile it cuts and the way it illuminates the inside of the helmet is much closer to how it is in the movie. I decided btw to do this because I had to dis-assemble the spotlight because it stopped lighting up. The way HT mounted the spot to the helmet was kind of shotty. And placing and removing the helmet visor caused the helmet to split apart along the center halves - make the visor loose and it subsequently jostled the wiring loose.

That looks damn near real, Tin. Only the giant clock radio gives it away. The awesomeness continues.

Thanks Wor-Gar :wave I'm not 100% happy with the HS yet. I'm working on some refinements now. Will post pics later tonight. :)
