Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

I didn't realize that I was going to really start looking forward to this piece!

I'm still on the waitlist but I don't think that will be a prob as I placed it on 11/30/2008. The only thing is I will have to flexpay it because my life comes first...(bills:monkey2)

Everyone will have to post picks to tide me over.

My thoughts on the EX and why it's so much better than the reg:

I would say that it's kinda like what makes the hand for the Patient Zero Pf so popular. (Well except for the 100 ES and I guess the fact that it's similar to what the original figure had)

He's walking around carrying a part of one of his victims. It makes him brutal. He can back up his terrifying image.

Picture this,... you're a member of the opposing force in the middle of a huge battle. A loud angry growl catches your attention. You glance to your right and notice this creature standing before you. He's HUGE. He towers over you! You notice he's clutching something in his closed fist. He raises it towards the sky and once again lets out a booming howl. Just then lightening pierces the sky briefly illuminating the object in his grasp. You stare in horror as you realize he's holding onto the decapitated head of one of your comrades.:horror

The arrows(reg) show that he cannot be stopped,... and the severed head(EX) shows what he does to those who try to stop him!:gun

The severed head makes a statement!!!

(Trying to keep the excitement up even though I don't need to):D

Nicely put, but if i see Berzerker with severed head i crap my pants if i see berzerker without severed head i still crap my pants either way i crap it:rotfl

I couldn't disagree with you more. In fact, I think that part of the masterful part of the LoTR trilogy is how PJ was able to show death and mayhem while keeping us focused on the quest....not the gore. He epitomized 'less is more'.

We saw Aragorn kill Lurtz and he didn't cut off his ears and wear them on his belt (ala Apocolypse Now). We were focused on the turning of the plot and the gravity of Frodo leaving with Sam.

We saw Haldir killed on the wall at Helms Deep and did not need to see his skull cloven in two to underscore the sacrifice. In fact, the lack of gore allowed us to sense the hopelessness of the situation.

We saw Grima kill Saruman and him fall to be impaled on a spike. We didn't need to hear his agonal respirations or see him spitting up lung tissue to get the point. In fact, the lack of it made the scene more iconic.

We saw Theoden die on the fields of Pellinor with just a small bit of blood on his face and were brought to tears by his words. We didn't need to see the evidence that his body was broken, the art was conveying that without all the gore.

These are just a few examples of how PJ understating some things worked much better. Again, less is more.

As all this relates to the Premium Format ,the sword at his feet suggests there are victims in his wake. The arrows suggest his unstoppable rage. The head takes away from the pure rage and power of the piece and brings the focus to the gore.

This is all very subjective so I am happy for you if you like the Ex better. I just had to put in my $.02 because from an artistic point I think you are off base. And I had the Ex on order and cancelled it to the the reg edition so I am walking the walk...

Gtz on getting your Ex tho....

Thanks man...that's what it is all about. Good statues, good discussions, good times.

The heads getting tossed over the walls was at Gondor. Those were the Orc of Mordor. The Berzerkers were from Saruman's army at Helms Deep.

Either way, the statue is A-freekin-mazing.......good stuff all around.:fireworks

Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

If I ever have money on the line due to a LOTR question I'll come to you.

Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

I may cancell.... thinking about dropping LOTR. :(

Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

I was on the verge of cancelling, but I converted my order to Flex-Pay. All of you guys' pics will have to me occupied 'till I recieve mine.

Hahaha. As long as I get a cut.

I am by no means an expert. Waaaay back when, some folks here were studying the Elvish language as a group. I am just a guy who has to raise his hand and open his mouth when somone says that Belladonna is prettier than Julia Roberts :lol

Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

I'm sure when the orders start processing you'll see alot of waitlists being converted. Example: I went on the waitlist for the Hellboy PF just yesterday and then a half hour ago I get an email saying that my waitlist has been converted due to cancellations and credit card declines.

What a well thought-out post. You make such a great point about how violence can occur off-screen and it still doesn't diminish the story. In fact, as you illustrated so astutely, it can often enhance the plot. Examples of this on the small screen include shows like Law and Order and NYPD Blue. Very succinctly put, C1leaN. Although I ordered the exclusive, I don't think I'll be displaying the severed head, either.

I do agree that PJ did a great job of conveying gore without necessarily displaying it, though in the end I doubt he really had much say in the matter. PJ could have made the movies much gorier and still stayed true to the subject matter and spirit of the books, but I'm pretty sure he was on a very tight leash concerning what he could and couldn't do. I do think he pushed the evelope as far as he could with decapitations, severed heads flying through the air, etc...but I think that's pretty well as far as he could have gone with this and still kept the PG-13 rating intact. New Line Cinema, after putting out over 300 million up front, were going to sink or swim depending on how well FoTR did at the box office and I seriously doubt there is any way they were going to sign off on anything higher than a PG-13 rating. It doesn't matter how well made a movie is, the higher the rating, the significantly lower the box office revenue and New LIne was not going to do anything that would potentially jeopardize it recouping it's investment.

When I look at the excl. Berserker I see a statue that, while not as accurate [movie-wise] a representation as the regular edition, has more of the feel of what PJ probably had in mind and wished he could have done. PJ is certainly no stranger to gore and in fact loves it and I have no doubt if he'd had his way the battle of Helm's Deep would have been a total bloodbath.....while at the same time still remaining true to Tolkien's vision.
