Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

I do agree that PJ did a great job of conveying gore without necessarily displaying it, though in the end I doubt he really had much say in the matter. PJ could have made the movies much gorier and still stayed true to the subject matter and spirit of the books, but I'm pretty sure he was on a very tight leash concerning what he could and couldn't do. I do think he pushed the evelope as far as he could with decapitations, severed heads flying through the air, etc...but I think that's pretty well as far as he could have gone with this and still kept the PG-13 rating intact. New Line Cinema, after putting out over 300 million up front, were going to sink or swim depending on how well FoTR did at the box office and I seriously doubt there is any way they were going to sign off on anything higher than a PG-13 rating. It doesn't matter how well made a movie is, the higher the rating, the significantly lower the box office revenue and New LIne was not going to do anything that would potentially jeopardize it recouping it's investment.

When I look at the excl. Berserker I see a statue that, while not as accurate [movie-wise] a representation as the regular edition, has more of the feel of what PJ probably had in mind and wished he could have done. PJ is certainly no stranger to gore and in fact loves it and I have no doubt if he'd had his way the battle of Helm's Deep would have been a total bloodbath.....while at the same time still remaining true to Tolkien's vision.

You also can't sell toys from a R rated movie either, though R ratings are more from language and sexual situations than gore. Most horror or gorey films use the F word alot.

Weren't Terminator, Predator and Alien R rated then? :)

I just hope the final product doesn't look different. Just look at the new Hellboy pictures in the SS site. :(

Yes. There were a small line of figures for each, but nothing geared especially to young kids like there was for LotR. How many kids over 13 play with plastic toy swords and such? :)

I stand by my opinion that once displayed in all its' glory.....the non-Ex will be iconic and amazing. I think the head will bring too much attention to the least impressive part of the scuplture.

I also disagree that PJ had anything but complete creative license on these films but, even if the pressure was on for FoTR, its' success would have garnered him full control over the next two. I think he wouldn't change a thing (gore-wise) on his masterpieces.

Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

I ordered the non-exclusive, but mostly because I am a cheapskate:eek:

I think the pose of the non-exclusive though looks more like he has pulled the arrows out of his own body, and holding them up in defiance, rather than just clutching a handful of arrows littering the battlefield...I probably put too much thought into this though.

It is well documented that New Line's entire existence hinged on the success of these films and there is no way on the face of the earth a C-list director [at the time] would have had full creative control...there was simply too much at stake. As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for New Line, Miramax would have bought the rights and PJ would have been on the outside looking in because they had no intention of having him direct at all. And since all three were basically shot simultaneously he would have had no more control over movies two and three than he had for the first one.

In addition, although I can't seem to find it right now, I'm sure I read somewhere how because of the limit of how much blood you can show for a PG rating, PJ was limited by this. Hinting at how he would have made it more gory if able.

Although I see C1eaN's point, I prefer the exclusive in this case. The severed head does show the brutality of the Berserker. No reading between the lines is necessary.

Oh I see what you mean and agree with that :)

I thought at first you meant is was against the law or something to produce toys for R rated films in the US :lol

Yeah, you can show a head or arm being cut off, but you can't show the spurting blood. You can show some orc intestines flying through the air, but you can't show the Uruks ripping him apart.....

We must have read the same article. I remember reading or seeing an interview in which PJ stated his biggest regret was not being able to film the battle scenes the way he would have liked, in particular Helm's Deep. Again, to his credit he did a masterful job of portraying violence without the gore, but to say that was due his artistic impression or vision simply isn't accurate. That was New Line's decision and there wasn't anything PJ could do about it.

As I said before, the excl. Berserker offers the best of both world's. If I want screen accurate I display him with a handful of arrows, and if I want what I believe to be more in line with PJ's real vision, I display him with the Rohirrim soldier bust. :naughty Either way, it's a win-win situation.

And that is what this is all about. You getting something you like. For that I am happy.

WHAT'S UP FRITZ!?!!?!? Hard to disagree with my old crew but we just see this one differently. Displaying the severed head would be like putting hydraulic lifts on a Mercedes 700 series and bouncing it down the street.

Oh well......we deffinately WON'T be disagreeing on the Ringwraith dio :joy

EDIT: If PJ would have made the trilogy more like Heavenly Creatures then Newline did the right thing. I am glad DelToro will be doing The Hobbit.

No, I don't think too many people are going to disagree about the dio., it looks amazing....though I'm sure more than a few people might be a bit upset if they miss out on the excl. :monkey2

I will be! I debated too long before getting this.

You, me, and alot of other people. This will be SS's biggest test since their servers were upgraded and although the Legolas PPO went very smoothly, I know I'm going to be a little nervous come next Friday.

Oops......I need to learn to read. I meant I debated to long to get the Uruk Hai and didn't get one. I won't be getting the dio, though it looks great. I don't collect those. I prefer individual figures.

Good luck to anyone who tries for this!

Were you going after the excl. Berserker or the reg.? I don't like your chances if it's the excl. you're looking for, but you never know....I've had waitlist's convert when I'd given up all hope.

I'm going for the exclusive. I just got the Ex. Moria Orc that converted a few days after I went on. You never know about this stuff. I'm surprised that Lurtz has a waiting list.

I was on a waitlist for a Predator that converted after 6 or 7 months.

So.....I'll wait and see after it starts shipping.

Re: Uruk Hai PF- Sold out, waitlist available-link in first post.

My berserker waitlist will be going on 5 months by the end of april.

*Keeping fingers crossed*
