Re: Vader has left the building!!

The cape is folded, but it's in it's own little bag in a seperate compartment with no weight on it. It is completely smooth and unwrinkled straight out of the box. Huge too.

Okay, just one pic...

Cool. Is the mouse droid metal or polystone?

Nice!!

Well, it looks like people are loving this guy so far. Obi-Wan is going to be great and make a terrific counterpart. Then, of course, Grievous will show up and surpass them both. Add Leia to the mix, and by the time we hit SDCC, the line will be well established as the ultimate in large scale Star Wars figures.

Re: Vader has left the building!!

I like your optimism, but I'm holding out judgment until we see the final product for Obi Wan. So far, only Vader has looked better than the protos. Grievous should be fine, but the faces on the humanoids have been less than expected. Here's hoping SS will change that soon!

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Do the lights on the chest box blink in sequence or just stay lit all the time?

I couldn't agree more! Old Ben next to Vader to recreate their classic battle makes me all tingly. Ben will be awesome just like Han and Luke, no doubt! I totally can't wait for Leia also. General Grievous will be the "flagship" piece for the SS SW 1/4 line.

Looks like they have stepped away from the dark gray foam packaging that they used with Luke and Han and have gone back to regular styrofoam. Hmm... And was there an outer slip cover over the box?

I just recently received the Green Goblin PF and the same dark gray foam packaging was used with him too. He also has the artwork on the outer slip cover as Vader does. I wonder if SSC has gone back to their previous packaging company to keep cost down. Although, Sauron came in a simular foam and every little spike was perfect.:banana

,..i think han looks really nice,...so does luke,..

Re: Vader has left the building!!

The lights don't blink. They are steadily lit. And I can't say how much the lights add to this piece. I want to keep him lit all the time. They really stand out from the all black costume.

Re: Vader has left the building!!

So will the lights burn out? What is the technology involved, and how long will the lights last if they can't be replaced? Just wondering, since I will probably want mine on most of the time, too.

,..if it's led's.., then expect something around 30,000 hours or more,...

They both look *nice* but not near as nice as the protos. For 300 bucks a pop, they really should look near perfect. I know it's mainly a painting issue because the sculpts are amazing. Like I said, they're good, but not mind blowing. Now the Vader looks really impressive, so I'm hoping that SS stepped up their game and the next releases will be worthy of displaying next to him. :joy

By the way, where is the Mouse Droid put in the box? Is it big enough to require a different box than the regular edition? If not, what would they put in that gap? Extra packing? Seems like the hole would be pretty noticeable.

I may be nitpicking here, but these aren't $300 a pop. They retail for $250 each, and can be found quite easily for less than $200.

Re: Vader has left the building!!

Well, with Vader looking this nice I'm probably going to have to get Ben then. :banghead

Yet another person who wants a relatively cheap mass produced product to be flawless. That just won't happen in this price range.

Now, if you're talking about the $1,000 Predator maquette, then I'm right there with you. Vader is a STEAL at $350. Again, if you want your products to look as you describe, be prepared to pay twice as much.

The Han exclusive is/was $299. Regular was $250 yeah, but these are the first. I would expect prices to go up over time. So I rounded around the $300 range. But that's just splitting hairs. Fact is, these are over $200 each and they aren't painted to match the protos. If they were, I would have no complaints. But as they're pretty much just show pieces since they're pretty well stuck in the one pose, they really should shine in the *show* department. Sure they look good, but they don't give off that WOW vibe. A 12" Hasbro figure has near that quality of paint apps. And they're $20!! So for $200+, the paint really should be light years better, and they're just not. I have no problems with the tailoring. It looks great, but if the face is off...eh who cares??

That's not to say Ben won't be amazing once he comes out, but you can't go back and change history. Luke and Han are done. And they fall short. Yes, you can find them for MUCH less now, but retail was $250 and that's what they should be judged at, not the great deal you find on Ebay (or wherever).
