As more time passes, I'm becoming more and more excited and happy to have ordered this exclusive.

Its truly a fantastic piece :clap:clap

And I greatly prefer the subdued (i.e. More true to the classic imagery) clothing of the PF compared to the g string stripper apparel of the comiquette.

/me runs for cover! :lol

:hi5: I'm with you brothers...Actually I'd be ashamed to display the Vamp comiq in front of my guests and friends..This PF is so much classier..you guys have great taste in art..Lets just hope Sideshow doesn't produce her at the same factory as Rogue :horror

The comiquette is beautiful in a completely unabashed and shameless manner. It makes a statement that few artworks are capable of. It's true that it has a lot of room to offend the hell out of people, and for people to make assumptions regarding the character of anyone who would display it.

But for those who know better, and are friends with people who know better, it's not an issue. Do you think Alexander Cabanel's Birth of Venus was considered acceptable by the nuns and feminist snobs of its day?

Considering it was common and acceptable for men to beat their wives back then, I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. :huh

Were the nuns and feminists beating wives? Because it's not acceptable to do now, and they still lost their ____ over the Mary Jane comiquette.

:dunnoBirth of Venus would've been offensive to the christian nuns for different reasons than just the glorification of sexuality and I don't believe feminists would make a big issue out of it as Venus was in complete control of her sexuality and was never really exploited by men..it was more of the other way around :wink1:

:lecture:lecture:lecture

Most likely it was the overly religious men who would feel shame for lusting after the painting and thus punishing the artist for inspiring the "unclean" feelings within them.

My question was more for Leonidas because he would be ashamed to own it, presumably because it's the kind of statues perv tools would lose their composure over.

My point is that unless you're a perv tool, there's nothing shameful about owning it.

It looks like a toon pin up for juveniles basically :dunno

And the PF looks like a sophisticated pin-up for mature adults?

I get that, but it's not like Vampirella spawned fans due to her charming whit and great personality. :lol

Damn straight. :lecture

I just don't make distinctions between pin-ups, other than quality of presentation. They both have it in spades.

Agreed. Honestly, the only reason I like the PF over the Com is because the com is more modern and a bit too "J. Scott Campbell-ey" while the PF is more classic and reminiscent of Frazetta's art.

I agree, which is why I made a point of getting the exclusive. I think the regular is cute, but not enough to buy. Everything else about it, from pose, base, and body is stellar. Body in particular, and the amount of it that's showing was a major selling point. I see nothing improper about it. What would be morally improper is if she were not esthetically fine as hell, or if she did not scream **** from every curve. She has both. Just close up those eyes, throw back the head, and we have a winner.

The PF on the other hand is classic Vampirella, and I can't resist her at all. If it came own to one or the other, I'd chose her.

I think the whole art vs. smut debate is subjective and more down to a person's own personal inability to distinguish one from another (which was your point). Arguing one is more "decent" than the other because of that is silly. Honestly, even bringing the wife factor in, the only way a significant other would take exception to this would be based on the reaction of the owner in regards to the piece.

You mean, like, if you put it on your night stand and made her sleep on the couch? :lol

One of the trickiest things about sex in art is the viewer. Making the effort to depict a shamelessly flaunted sexuality, especially with a female subject, is opening the door on something sacred. All it takes is one person to decide that it's (approvingly, or not) porn, and it's tainted. The question is, do you hide it away to protect it, or do you chance the leers because the alternative amounts to a submission to those who see no beauty in unrepentant sex?
