My significant other is in the film industry and we've been trying to decide the best place to hang our hats for the next few years. We are still in the deciding stages.

We realize that LA is probably best for films, but Vancouver has some great opportunity also.

But that aside, we are looking at it from the city itself perspective. Right now my sweetheart is in LA finishing up school and well, doesn't love it sooo much. But neither of us have been to Vancouver and I have not been to LA. So I trust all of your judgments.

Vancouver, or Los Angeles? And why?

Few things, weather in LA is better then Vancouver. Vancouver is a cool place and completely different then L.A.. I wouldnt mind living there in the Summer but no thanks in the winter.

One question is have you looked into getting the necessary paperwork to move to Canada and work there.

I thought you two were done. Must have misread something. Also heard you were moving to Toronto.

You decide. :) Your life, nobody can decide this for you and your loved one, but yourself.

Actually Vancouver in Winter isn't bad. I would prefer to live in Vancouver, and not because I come from Canada, but because I love the beauty of the Province. The snow there doesn't stay.... But I like where I am now, so meh.

Define bad. :D I am socal born and raised. I like my season. Its not just the cold its the constant rain the the Pacific Northwest gets that I would not want to deal with.

Didn't California experience an earth quake at 6.9 off the coast? You may have meant it on a political level, but either way, I would be scared to live on the coast in Cali.

Vancouver is still on the ring of fire and can have earthquakes too. I would rather have the quake in CA then anywhere in the world besides maybe Japan. We build based on the fact we know they will happen where other places where there are less common dont and when they get one the damage is much greater.

with choices such as this, you really can't lose. both are amazing cities.

Vancouver is a cultural melting pot with impressive architecture and a forward thinking mentality. there is rain. a lot of rain. on a nice day however, it may be the most beautiful place on the planet. sitting at the ocean surrounded by snow capped mountains isn't a rare occurrence. the city is expensive to live in however… the downtown core has become a gentrified suburb leaving the fringe a more interesting place to hang. the music / art scene is genuine… self expression is honored above the quest for commercial fame. you mentioned the film industry… it is a tight knit family within the city, and cracking it may not happen overnight.

Los Angeles has some great neighbourhoods… Echo Park, Silver Lake, Eagle Rock… the weather is obviously fantastic 350 days of the year and the art / culture scene is off the hook. the opportunities are endless but so is the traffic. the scenery is beautiful and the people are ambitious. groceries are organic and almost half the price as in Canada. as for the film industry, it is everywhere… one does not have to look hard to find a way in.

I am Canadian. Just haven't ever been to Vancouver. Thank you for the responses all. I'm enjoying them.
