At least as far as this line is concerned anyway.. ;)

There are still paleo-artists out there that do a lot of color so I don't think we're seeing a trend of darker dinos...it's just Sideshow's guys have decided these pieces look more realistic with a more muted color palette.

True. What about the bull ceratopsid? Could have worked some color into the frill, particularly since it was during mating season.

True that there was a potential for flamboyant coloration on the Proto's frill, but it doesn't terribly irk me that it's not brightly colored. Certainly could have been, but this does make for a very menacing appearance, and in particular for a small herbivore to be cryptically colored and not display such dimorphism isn't terribly uncommon. They could evince fitness in other ways. The potential was there, but not having it realized is alright with me.

It's mostly wishful thinking at this point. I might need to face facts, and accept that the flashy dinosaurs of the nineties are behind us. :lol

You mean like this? Now this is how sideshow SHOULD be painting them. :duh

Ah, the Chaos Effect line. Their cartoon-like figures were pretty artfully done, though the paint schemes are still as gruesome today as they were then.

That rex was just a believer in 80s fashion sense. Perhaps Bill and Ted found him and brought him back in the phone booth, and then had to give him a radical new style, dude.

Do the sculptors actually choose the colors ? I assumed Sideshow just picked their own.

I would love Marshall to be brought on to do a therapod...maybe beg William Stout to sculpt one as well...and while I'm wishing I'd like a piece by James Gurney..and a million bucks.. :D

1:1 Bix bust FTW.

Yeah, I believe the artist paints their own prototype, if nothing else. Even Rogers paints her own prototypes for the Carnegie Collection.

Well don't do it now, you'll be caught for sure. However...if you were to give it to one of us for safe keeping it'd be hard to prove it was you...

Don't tease me like that man...lol after seeing his Bix maquette in that one photo I've always wanted one...the plush version just ain't cutting it anymore..a formation of skybax riders would also be exceptional.. :D

I wasn't sure about the painting deal...Krentz made that one comment about how he wasn't sure about how the Styrac would turn out til it came back painted..then he liked it. Made me think Sideshow does the color picking.. :/ I could maybe try asking Adrian though.. :?

Dang, I want one of those. Almost looks like she's smiling back at him.

I also happened upon this jaw-dropping sculpture by Jorge Blanco, of all people. Note the gorgeous frill ornamentation.

I also noticed Jorge Blanco submitted several pieces of Stegosaurus artwork for PT92. They are quite awesome, and some of them depict an adult standing beside a baby. Something we'll see in his SS statue, perhaps?

If he does a dio..possibly, Maquettes so far have been single animals. PT doesn't say one way or the other, but I swear I heard it was a maquette... a baby wouldn't be a VS Dio for this line anyway. The drawing in PT of Jorge's does look like a model or sculpture of some sort...the piece above by Fabio has Foulke's baby stego in it and a similar mother/juvenile sketch as well...could be a just a common theme or both did designs for a project..I don't know if Shane had the baby stego designed drawed up by Fabio or he just sketched the finished piece.

The proto above is a nice piece..I didn't know he sculpted it though. I also love the Carnotaurus in the same exhibit..very Disney-like, but still an awesome design.

Marshall integrates color very nicely. They should bring him on board.

Still a strong advocate for Todd Marshall to be brought into the Dinosauria fold. No reason why not. He's a stunning and innovative paleoartist who has a talent for capturing both beauty and menace in a single rendition.
